About The Position

The Drafting Apprentice prepares documents and drawings for plant fabrication and builder erection of materials using order documents, design packages, and drafting procedures. The apprentice ensures drafting work is accurate and complete and includes all appropriate drawings and documentation. Order complexity increases according to the drafter’s abilities and progress through milestones. Chief Industries, Inc. has grown from a construction company founded in 1954 into a diverse company employing more than 1,400 people. Chief Buildings, a brand of Chief Industries, has designed and manufactured construction solutions since 1966 for manufacturing, commercial, community, and agricultural applications. Its buildings are designed to meet customer needs, sold through authorized builders throughout the United States, and manufactured in Grand Island, Nebraska; Rensselaer, Indiana; and Lancaster, South Carolina.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.

Responsibilities

Develop complete familiarity with Chief’s products and procedures.
Develop computer literacy in AutoCAD, FOCUS, MBS, IFS, and other available tools and systems.
Prepare erection drawings with accurate part identification and quantities, and complete sections and details for proper installation of materials.
Prepare fabrication documents with accurate part identification and quantities, material utilization, and complete information about holes, clips, and plates in assemblies.
Keep accurate records of project hours and time worked, and inform the group leader about schedule status and potential delays.
Establish positive, constructive communication with all stakeholders.
Cultivate skills and practices that produce high-quality, efficient work and service.
Exercise sound judgment about details affecting the economics of field erection versus plant fabrication.
Recommend process improvements to management.
