SolidWorks Manufacturing Drafter

Axiom Custom Products•Portland, OR
•$65,000 - $75,000

About The Position

Axiom Custom Products is hiring a Drafter for its Engineering team. The role is suited to someone with hands-on building experience—such as cabinet building, fabrication, or shop work—and some SolidWorks background, including coursework, self-taught experience, or early professional experience. The company values practical knowledge of how drawings become physical products and offers room to develop SolidWorks skills. Working under the direction of Design Engineers, the Drafter turns their concepts and assemblies into clean, accurate, production-ready drawing sets. The role supports projects from quoting through production and involves coordinating with Engineering, project management, and shop staff. The position pays $65,000–$75,000, depending on experience.

Requirements

  • Hands-on build experience in cabinets, fabrication, woodworking, welding, CNC, or a comparable shop environment.

  • Mechanical aptitude and comfort with basic shop math, including dimensions and tolerances.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Clear written and visual communication skills.
  • Comfort working across departments and communicating with Engineering, Project Management, and shop staff.
  • Solid general computer skills, including Google Docs, Slack, or similar tools.

Responsibilities

  • Build detailed fabrication drawings from 3D models.
  • Create assembly drawings, duplicate or derivative assemblies, and bills of materials.
  • Apply Axiom’s drawing and naming standards consistently across projects.
  • Revise drawings and models as projects evolve, keeping them accurate and current.
  • Support projects from quoting through production and coordinate with Engineering, project management, and the shop floor.
  • Save out DXF files for production.
  • Create models and drawings of production templates and jigs.
  • Create installation directives.
  • Perform simple prototype modeling and testing.
  • Complete work in a timely and efficient manner and communicate clearly with the team.

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance, with dependent coverage options.
  • 401(k) and Roth investment options.
  • 20 days of accrued PTO after the first year.
  • Six paid holidays.
