About The Position

Seeking an experienced Drafter with expertise in drafting using Creo software to provide support to our client in Idaho Falls, ID. This role is expected to help reduce an existing drawing backlog, mentor less experienced drafters, and serve as a quality checkpoint for drafting deliverables. The Contractor will plan, lay out, prepare, revise, and check engineering drawings manually or using computer-aided design (CAD) software in one or more areas of specialization (architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, or electrical drafting). Work independently from notes, sketches, or general instruction, applying advanced Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and sound modeling/drafting practices.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience using Creo software.
  • Minimum of 7 years of relevant work experience, including checking/red-lining the work of other drafters or serving in a lead drafter capacity.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply ASME Y14.5-2009 to real parts and assemblies, including datum systems, position, profile, orientation, runout, form controls, composite controls, projected tolerance zones, virtual condition, and bonus tolerance.
  • Ability to explain why a GD&T scheme protects function and how the requirement can be manufactured and verified; ability to identify overconstrained, underdefined, conflicting, or noninspectable requirements.
  • Advanced skill with PTC Creo and Windchill Data Management Software or comparable parametric 3D CAD software and Data Manager (PDM or Vault) and working knowledge of AutoCAD. Creo proficiency is required for immediate contribution.
  • Knowledge of drafting techniques.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the use of nationally recognized standards (e.g., ANSI, ASME, MIL-STD, etc.)
  • Understanding of various types of drawings (e.g., Architectural, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical/instrumentation, etc.)
  • Ability to understand and interpret ANSI/ASME Y14 Drafting standards.
  • Working knowledge and application of GD&T per ASME Y14.5-2009 or more recent, including the ability to teach or correct GD&T usage in others' work.
  • Familiarity with American Welding Society (AWS) symbols and procedures.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for interfacing with engineers, field personnel, and management.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple concurrent drawing packages under deadline pressure.
  • US Citizenship is required to perform this contract.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare complex new drawings and perform drawing changes consistent with company and nationally recognized procedures and standards. This will include 2D line work and 3D modeling.
  • Assist in the determination of drawing elements i.e., dimensions, part/component selection, tolerance, and design and process parameters.
  • Evaluate design input from project engineers working with design engineers.
  • Make required mathematical calculations (i.e., geometric, tolerance stack up calculations).
  • Work with design engineers to specify parts, assemblies, and installation.
  • May contribute design modification ideas to improve the quality of the product or facilitate construction/fabrication.
  • Provide field/as-building documentation support.
  • Maintain working proficiency in Creo, AutoCAD, and other modeling software used by the organization; adapt quickly to company-specific CAD standards and PDM/PLM systems.
  • Report progress appropriately to project and line management as required.
  • Other duties as assigned by the BEA Technical Point of Contact.
