About The Position

We are one of the nation’s leading providers of industrial solutions, serving as the single-source for our client’s custom shell and tube heat transfer equipment. Our fully integrated shop services include state-of-the-art technologies, engineering, design, manufacturing, fabrication, maintenance, and repair. Ohmstede is looking for a candidate responsible for developing, revising, and maintaining fabrication drawings and bill of materials for shell and tube heat exchangers and related equipment. Works directly with engineering to ensure drawings accurately reflect design requirements and are executable by the shop without delay or rework. Supports the full job lifecycle from initial design through fabrication and redline completion.

Requirements

  • Associate degree or technical training in drafting/design (or equivalent experience)
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD (2D) and/or SolidWorks
  • Working knowledge of fabrication drawings and bill of materials
  • Strong geometry and dimensional calculation ability
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering calculations and specifications
  • Organized and capable of managing multiple jobs and revisions
  • Effective communication with engineering, production, and QC

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with shell & tube heat exchangers or pressure vessels
  • Familiarity with ASME Section VIII, TEMA, and API standards
  • Experience in a fabrication or heavy industrial environment

Responsibilities

  • Generate detailed fabrication drawings, layouts, and section views based on engineering calculations, sketches, and customer specifications.
  • Review customer specifications, purchase orders, estimates, and engineering notes to ensure drawings align with job requirements and scope.
  • Ensure all drawings meet applicable ASME, TEMA, API, and company standards prior to release.
  • Develop and maintain accurate bill of materials aligned with drawings, engineering notes, and procurement needs.
  • Create scaled layouts to verify clearances, component fit-up, and assembly feasibility prior to release to shop.
  • Update drawings based on engineering changes, customer comments, and field/shop redlines while maintaining proper revision control.
  • Interface with shop personnel, QC, and engineering to resolve drawing issues, clarify design intent, and minimize fabrication delays.
  • Support drawing transmittals and ensure correct revisions are issued for customer approval and internal distribution.
  • Develop drawings and BOMs from existing equipment, field measurements, or shop components when required.
  • Maintain organized electronic records of drawings, revisions, and related documentation in accordance with company procedures.
  • Identify drawing errors, inefficiencies, or recurring issues and work with engineering to improve standards and practices.
