About The Position

ASRC Federal Field Services, a Subsidiary of ASRC Federal Holding Company, is currently seeking a Drafter/ CAD Operator IV at the Plum Island Animal Disease Research Center, located on Plum Island, NY. This role is responsible for developing and maintaining baseline configuration for systems and equipment, facilitating change tracking and authorization including drawing updates, certification and test documentation and system operating parameters. The Drafter also provides support to the project and work planning functions on Plum Island. The position requires utilizing AutoCAD systems to execute assignments, developing the configuration library and change history log for all systems and equipment, and participating in Project and Work Planning functions by reviewing project plans for technical content. Additionally, the role involves comparing project plans to configuration library status and change history, operating AutoCAD systems to design & document systems and processes, and assisting in the development of Preventive Maintenance plans for facilities, systems, and equipment. The Drafter/CAD Operator will also provide feedback and evaluation on work performed, confer with operations staff, provide support for CAD as built/redline drawings, and offer technical support to operational managers. Other duties include performing other assigned duties and providing backup support for planners.

Requirements

  • Four-year degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent combination of education and work experience in maintenance and operations field.
  • Extensive education or experience working with CAD design software.
  • In alignment with tasks, utilize appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment) such as safety shoes, hard hats, hearing, and eye protection.
  • Ability to climb ladders, reach overhead and lift to 50 lbs.
  • Industrial work environment that may include loud noise, heat stress, work indoors and outdoors.
  • Perform physical activities that require considerable use of your whole body.
  • Ability to carry out housekeeping duties with minimal direction, following prescribed methods & directives.
  • Assignments may require entry into biocontainment facilities, utility plants, a variety of storage buildings and constructions sites.
  • Work within the containment laboratory requires decontamination showers.
  • Must be physically able to move freely in environments that are restricted in space, unsteady or otherwise not easily accessible.
  • As a condition for employment, all personnel entering the BSL-3 biocontainment facilities at Plum Island shall not be in contact with specific susceptible animals and their premises off Plum Island for a period of five (5) days after leaving biocontainment. Currently, restricted species are cattle, sheep, goats, deer, other ruminants, and swine. Contact with horses, birds (agricultural and pet birds) and rabbits are normally permitted, but restrictions may be placed on staff working with or near-contagious agents affecting these species. Restricted livestock or other restricted animals may not be housed on the premises where the employee lives and where the quarantine cannot be enforced.

  • Providing technical support to operational managers.
  • Performing other duties as determined and assigned by Department Manager.
  • Providing backup support for planners.
