Requirements

• Ability to learn & obtain in depth knowledge of City ordinances and policies relating to regulations governing parking
• Knowledge of geography of Downtown Cedar Rapids
• Skill in typing at moderate speed and high accuracy preferred
• Skill in computer data entry acquired on the job
• Ability to operate the following equipment and tools: personal computer with Windows based applications, handheld computer ticket writers, two-way radio
• Critical thinking ability, ability to make decisions
• Excellent customer service and communication skills
• Ability to work under general supervision, exercising judgment in scheduling and following patrol route
• Ability to work cooperatively, communicate effectively, and to maintain effective internal and external customer relations to accomplish job responsibilities
• Ability to quickly learn and use new skills and knowledge brought about by rapidly changing information and/or technology; ingenuity and inventiveness in the performance of assigned tasks
• Graduation from High School or GED
• Documented prior experience to establish competency in duties performed and use of required equipment and tools
• Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work
• Valid Iowa Driver’s License
• Clarity of speech and hearing, which permits the employee to communicate effectively
• Sufficient vision, which permits the employee to operate equipment and tools
• Sufficient manual dexterity, which permits the employee to operate equipment and tools
• Sufficient personal mobility, which permits the employee to operate equipment and tools, including the ability to stand and walk outside (in all types of weather) for extended periods of time

Responsibilities

• Patrols, monitors, and enforces public parking areas to enhance the experience of the public parking system through customer interaction.
• Practices good public relations with customers and visitors by answering questions and providing information concerning parking services and traffic regulations.
• Patrols metered and monthly parking areas; utilizes handheld ticket devices to issue citations for parking violations, including enforcement of towing ordinance and emergency snow route ordinance.
• Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with organizational policies, procedures and safety practices.
• Attends work regularly at the designated place and time.
• Supports continuous process improvement initiatives.
• Performs related work as required.
• Appears in court as witness against violators (as needed), reports inoperative meters to meter technician personnel, and assists with customer service activities.
• Assists with event parking and ability to count monies.
