About The Position

The Downtown Partnership of Baltimore (DPOB) is seeking a Downtown Baltimore Guide to serve as a visible and welcoming presence throughout Downtown Baltimore. This role involves assisting residents, employees, visitors, businesses, and the community by helping them navigate the area, find resources, and feel welcome. The Guide will also act as the eyes and ears of the community, observing and reporting safety concerns, street disorder, quality-of-life issues, and other conditions that require attention. This is an active, public-facing position for individuals who enjoy being outdoors, interacting with people, and contributing to a positive Downtown experience.

Requirements

Enjoy helping people and providing friendly, professional customer service.
Communicate clearly, courteously, and effectively with people from a wide range of backgrounds.
Comfortable working in a public-facing position and interacting with people throughout your shift.
Ability to stay alert and aware of surroundings while working in a busy urban environment.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, established procedures, and assigned schedules.
Ability to remain calm, use good judgment, and communicate effectively during challenging situations.
Comfortable learning to use a two-way radio and other communication equipment.
Reliable and able to work independently as well as part of a team.
Comfortable working outdoors and walking or standing for most of your shift.
Willingness to wear a designated DPOB uniform and represent the organization professionally in public.
At least 18 years old.
High school diploma or equivalent.

Nice To Haves

Experience in hospitality, marketing, public relations, public safety, security, customer service, tourism, or a related field is preferred, but not required.
Relevant combinations of education and experience will be considered.
A valid driver's license is recommended but not required.

Responsibilities

Patrol assigned areas on foot while maintaining a visible, approachable, and professional presence.
Serve as a goodwill ambassador and resource for Downtown residents, employees, visitors, businesses, and stakeholders.
Provide directions and information about businesses, destinations, attractions, events, transportation, resources, and points of interest.
Build positive relationships and interact professionally with businesses, property representatives, employees, residents, visitors, and community partners.
Provide safety escorts within the service area in accordance with DPOB procedures.
Observe and report crimes, disturbances, suspicious activity, safety concerns, street disorder, quality-of-life issues, hazards, and other conditions requiring attention.
Use two-way radios and other communication and reporting tools after training.
Identify and report maintenance concerns, infrastructure issues, and service needs.
Work with Baltimore Police Department, Baltimore City agencies, DPOB teams, public-safety partners, and community organizations as appropriate.
Support DPOB events, activations, and special assignments.
Complete daily activity reports, incident documentation, service information, and other required reports.
Follow established procedures and respond appropriately when situations require additional assistance or emergency support.
