The Work You Will Do: DOT Internship – D5 – Fall 2026 Semester / August to December As a communications intern at FDOT District 5, you will gain hands-on experience driving public outreach and strategic communications across diverse communities. Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of communications principles.
  • Use of a personal computer (PC) and Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Organization, time management, and task prioritization.
  • Understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide identification supporting citizenship or authority to work for the duration of program participation.
  • Participants are required to comply with all statutes and rules and the Department’s policies, procedures, regulations, and Code of Ethics.

  • We are looking for a highly motivated team member that is a college level student (junior, senior, graduate levels) and desires to work on a dynamic team and with other departments within FDOT District 5.

Responsibilities

  • development of project-specific collateral materials
  • media training
  • public meeting/hearing and special event coordination and participation
  • website audits and updates
  • development of Community Awareness Plans
  • development of content for our District Newsletter (content and layout)
  • working with the diverse communities in District Five
