About The Position

This is a part-time internship position with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) in District Two. The intern will gain knowledge, skills, and experience in the Transportation Industry by performing routine tasks under direct supervision across different work units and actively participating in team projects. The role emphasizes contributing to agency goals and fostering a culture of TRREC: Trust, Relationships, Respect, Empowerment, and Communication. FDOT encourages growth through engagement, empowerment, training, and professional development, with access to numerous courses via the agency's learning management system. The intern will have the opportunity to request specific work areas of interest, with FDOT endeavoring to fulfill these requests based on available positions.

Requirements

  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States and provide identification supporting citizenship or authority to work for the duration of program participation.
  • Participants are required to comply with all statutes and rules and the Department’s policies, procedures, regulations, and Code of Ethics.
  • Interest in learning about the role FDOT plays and how the support staff manage to keep it all running from the background.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel.
  • Skills in Organization.
  • Skills in Time Management.
  • Students in all types of business degrees, Students in Education, Human Resources, Talent Development, Communications, Information Technology, Psychology, Marketing or Public Administration related technical field.
  • Computer science, or related field; junior, senior, or graduate student; minimum GPA 3.0.

Responsibilities

  • Gain knowledge, skills and experience in the Transportation Industry.
  • Perform routine tasks under direct supervision across different work units within the department.
  • Engage in research and provide insights to support initiatives.
  • Interact with executive leadership, team leads, project managers, fellow interns, and external partners.
  • Actively participate in team projects, contribute to agency goals, and assist in driving change within the organization.
  • Assist with inputting transactions into the Invoice Transmittal System to ensure accurate and timely processing.
  • Audit P-Card transactions for compliance and accuracy.
  • Pull financial or operational reports, organize and file documentation related to contracts for payment, and support other office functions as needed.
  • Work incoming tickets.
  • Assist with any projects (Memory upgrade/PC Replacements/Monitor replacements etc…)
  • Ensure computers are connected to the FDOT network.
  • Assist with patching computers as needed.
  • Attend meetings (Workstation statewide/AV statewide/Network statewide/Enterprise Vulnerabilities).
  • Wipe computers.
  • Assist with surplusing computers and other equipment.
  • Monitor Network Alerts in LogicMonitor.
  • Reset passwords.
  • Assist with replacing faulty network equipment - this often includes travel.
  • Research security vulnerabilities identified by Qualys.
  • Assist with StarLink maintenance and deployment.
  • Assist on ongoing projects by attending project meetings and providing research assistance and feedback.
  • Wipe surplus server hard drives.
  • Assist with reviewing contractor and consultant qualifications, payroll, and overhead rates.
  • Gain an understanding of Florida statutes, FDOT rules, and policies, and see how contracts are negotiated and executed.
  • Learn about MyFloridaMarketPlace, the state’s purchasing system, and what it’s like to work in state government.
  • Work with the Organizational Development and Training Department (OD&T) initiatives, projects, learning management system (LMS), marketing efforts and general data reporting and analysis.
  • Work with people and numbers that make a difference in the Department’s culture and success.
  • Provide fresh eyes on continuous improvement opportunities based on current process to better efficiencies for the unit and the District Customer.
  • Be a thought partner with other team members and departments.
