About The Position

We are looking for an experienced and knowledgeable DOT Compliance Specialist to lead our DOT safety programs, policies, and procedures in compliance with all regulatory authorities and CSC policies. This position will also be responsible for coordinating and maintaining company policies as it relates to DOT Compliance, adhering to local, state, and federal environmental health and safety regulations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or recognized equivalent) in safety or related field
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in DOT Safety
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with working knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration regulations / DOT
  • Knowledge of Federal, State, and DOT compliance and general industry EHS Safety.
  • Experience with accident reviews and investigations, corrective action plans and retraining.
  • Strong working knowledge of Electronic Logging Device systems, and vehicle camera systems.
  • Ability to interpret and apply local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Proven leadership skills.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.
  • Must have the ability to interface within all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Drive compliance in the company’s transportation divisions to include qualifying, licensing, permitting and maintaining the hauling authority as well as driver training and safety.
  • Ensure DOT and FMSCA regulations compliance overall through the development of safety policies, programs, procedures and employee training and proactive/preventative measures.
  • Oversee/manage division specific DOT programs.
  • Ensure all company equipment follows state and federal regulations, including registrations, IFTA, HUT, and all other legal documentation for operating needs
  • Identify regulatory compliance risks/concerns and make suggestions and/or take corrective actions to implement solutions to improve controls/operations.
  • Guide management in the development/review of applicable policies, procedures, and business practices.
  • Lead DOT compliance and safety functions to include the entire qualification process for all drivers in the areas of contracts, files and orientations; monitor and reach to the safety rating through the DOT.
  • Lead responses to DOT, IFTA and IRP to include all renewals; report all mileage to track for IFTA reporting.
  • Maintain UIIA driver database as well as UCR agreement and MCS-150.
  • Provide counseling to drivers on paperwork corrections.
  • Manage the random drug and alcohol testing pool for all non-Atlas qualified drivers throughout the organization
  • Oversee the CSC DOT Compliance Program to manage driver credential timelines, maintain driver files, process driver logs and violations, and complete updates in TMW regarding drivers and equipment.
  • Coordinate all functions and training with CTPAT, HAZMAT, and TSA certifications.
  • Keep current with regulatory updates through literature and electronic means that effect the organization.
  • Act as liaison when dealing with any government agency for auditing purposes, violations, or complaints.
  • Coach and enable consistent implementation of Transportation Safety practices and methods in conformance with applicable laws, regulations, and guidelines (e.g., Driver Qualification, Hours of Service, DOT Drug & Alcohol policy, CSA monitoring, etc.)
  • Work collaboratively and transparently with senior business leadership, legal and policy teams to ensure alignment between core business priorities and transportation compliance priorities.
  • Develop and deliver training programs for transportation staff to ensure that they understand and comply with relevant regulations, laws, and policies.
  • Leverage existing fleet compliance and safety technology, and ensure systems are kept up to date and support regulatory compliance and improve our safety outcomes.
  • Own key safety and compliance projects that support VLS’s strategic direction with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Support accurate reporting of leading and lagging metrics that gauge current status, inform on long-term progress, and allow for industry comparisons.
  • Conduct audits and inspections of transportation operations to ensure compliance with regulations, laws, and policies.
  • Consult with local Transport Leaders, Risk Management, Legal, and Fleet Management on vehicle-related collisions and associated liability claims as needed.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders, such as regulatory agencies and industry groups, to ensure that the organization is aligned with industry standards and best practices.
  • Develop Driver Hiring guidelines in collaboration with HR and Legal
  • Partner with operational teams to ensure our driver records are maintained and comply with any new requirements, and ensure any new drivers are onboard with the correct requirements and paperwork.
