About The Position

Works under the supervision of the Lead Dosimetrist, and under the general direction of the Radiation Oncologist and Medical physicist; Radiation Oncology Services. Shows proficiency with the treatment planning system and other related software programs. Pays special attention to dose constraints and tumor volume to achieve the best plan possible in accordance to ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable). Performs dose calculations, is proficient in the Radiation Oncology EMR, and assists with simulations and setups as requested.

Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree, Related Field (Required)
  • Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) - Medical Dosimetrist Certification Board (MDCB) (Required)

Nice To Haves

  • Clinical Radiation Therapy performing Dosimetry (Preferred)
  • Radiologic Technologists - The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (Preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Designs, generates, and measures radiation dose distributions and dose calculations.
  • Provides oversight to high level treatment procedures in both external beam radiation therapy and brachytherapy.
  • Performs technical job functions including 3D, IMRT and basic treatment planning.
  • Ensures physicians' prescription including dose and constraints are adhered to for the best plan possible in accordance to ALARA (As Low as Reasonably Achievable).
  • Performs specialized skills such as custom treatment devices, brachytherapy planning, and clinical protocol compliance.
  • Prepares treatment plans, calculates tumor volumes and documents pertinent data in an accurate, concise manner according to department policies and procedures.
  • Takes responsibility for checking dosimetry work to ensure accuracy and consistency prior to hand-off.
  • Actively participates in Simulation planning of IMRT and/or difficult setups in a positive manner.
  • Documents/communicates changes in treatment parameters accurately and clearly.
  • Ensures that all pertinent information for patient treatment (e.g., scans, fusion, set-up instructions, other appointments) are documented and communicated appropriately.
  • Responsible for safe practices as referenced in the National Patient Safety Goals, RHS Team Up for Safety, and Radiation Oncology safety policies in accordance with RHS policies and procedures and in accordance with RHS Code of Ethics.
  • Complies with HIPPA guidelines - places patient confidential information in designed secure areas.
  • Uses individual log on/off for computer driven applications.
  • Uses 2 patient identifiers prior to any medical procedure.
  • Compares prescription and consent with the treatment plan to confirm name, DOB, site and laterality.
  • Reports any malfunctions or equipment or unusual occurrence immediately to manager or physicist.
