About The Position

Understand the technical aspects of radiation oncology and physics to derive computerized treatment plans and communicate these aspects to the Radiation Oncologist for plan approval and to the Radiation Therapists for plan implementation. Accurately records charges for services and materials used or delegating charges to be recorded. Demonstrates proper use and care of the radiation therapy equipment, simulating treatment equipment, and block set up (if applicable). Demonstrates a high degree of competence and professionalism in performing responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree required.
  • Completed or in the process of completing a formal medical dosimetry program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), or foreign equivalent, and be eligible for graduation upon program completion.
  • Hold or be eligible to obtain American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) (T) certification and Iowa Department of Public Health Permit to Practice.
  • Certified Medical Dosimetrist (CMD) certification or eligibility is required.
  • Successful completion of CMD certification is required within three (3) years of hire.
  • Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) required. New employees certify within three (3) months after hire date.
  • Experience in radiation therapy.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
  • Possess strong mathematical skills.
  • Ability to visualize objects in 3-dimensional concepts to facilitate planning process.
  • Ability to work under pressure due to fluctuating workloads and deadlines.
  • High degree of empathetic listening, tact and kindness toward others.
  • Ability to communicate well verbally.
  • Must work effectively as a member of a team.
  • Strong computer knowledge.
  • Technical skills associated with duties listed within this job description.
  • Must be competent in all assigned areas.
  • Must demonstrate leadership and organizational skills as required for this position.

Responsibilities
