About The Position

The Dormitory Patrol position within Housing and Residential Services is responsible for monitoring dormitories, enforcing security protocols, and responding to or reporting any unsafe incidents or conditions. This role involves patrolling designated dormitories to prevent unlawful entry and vandalism, monitoring security cameras and alarms, reporting maintenance needs, and responding to emergencies by contacting appropriate personnel. The patrol officer will also monitor radio communications, check identification of residents and guests, address policy violations, submit reports on incidents, and handle resident lockouts.

Requirements

High school diploma or its equivalent.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisor, colleagues, and customers.
Ability to read and understand written directions, safety signage, and other documents.
Ability to use e-mail, work order tracking software, and other job-specific technology after training.
Ability to work independently and/or as a member of a team.

Responsibilities

Monitor dormitories to prevent unlawful entry and vandalism.
Observe and patrol designated dormitory areas.
Monitor security cameras, fire and smoke alarms, window locks, and interior and exterior lights.
Report maintenance and repair needs.
Respond to incidents such as fire, medical emergencies, flooding, water discharge, and hazardous materials by contacting emergency personnel.
Monitor two-way radio and respond to calls from the Operations Center and/or supervisor.
Monitor residents and guests entering buildings and report trespassers to MIT Police.
Approach and interact with students and visitors violating policies, inform them of policies, and direct them to comply.
Ask students or visitors for identification as necessary.
Contact MIT Police when necessary.
Submit scheduled written, electronic, and oral reports.
Provide information regarding unusual incidents.
Perform resident lockouts.
