About The Position

Houston Ballet is seeking Summer Chaperones / Dorm Resident Advisors to ensure student safety and create an engaging environment for pre-professional dancers during the Summer Intensive Program. This live-in position requires responsible individuals to supervise over 130 students at the University of St. Thomas dormitory for a 5-week period. Chaperones will participate in comprehensive training and are expected to be available for in-person work in Houston, Texas. This role is crucial in maintaining a safe, secure, and positive living experience for the students.

Requirements

  • Must be available for in-person work in Houston, Texas from June 15th – July 25th, 2026.
  • Must be 21 years of age or older by June 15th, 2025.
  • Must be available to sleep in residence.
  • All applicants are subject to a background check.
  • Strong understanding and desire to work with adolescent children.
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to provide supervision in a responsible, caring, and respectful manner and serve as a role model.
  • A valid driver's license and willingness to drive a 15-passenger van.
  • Willingness to learn, communicate and work with computers and mobile devices using software including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, Google Suite, Band app.

  • Experience working with adolescents ages 12 – 17
  • Ability to handle high-stress and/or unexpected situations and circumstances.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure the safety and security of all students, with direct responsibility for up to 20 students per chaperone.
  • Assist students with move-in and move-out procedures.
  • Attend and supervise weekend activities with students, including transportation as necessary.
  • Plan, implement, and supervise nightly and weekend activities at the UST campus.
  • Participate in delivering an orientation for all incoming students.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with students through group and individual meetings.
  • Ensure students adhere to curfew and dormitory/Houston Ballet rules and policies.
  • Demonstrate the ability to make independent and sound decisions.
  • Maintain professionalism when communicating with students, families, and faculty.
  • Create and maintain a Google Drive with important student life documentation.
  • Document behavioral infractions and communicate with Houston Ballet Academy staff.
  • Communicate with fellow chaperones and students using the Band app.
  • Communicate with Houston Ballet Academy staff and students’ families via phone and email.
  • Communicate and collaborate with University of St. Thomas staff.
  • Attend meetings with Houston Ballet Academy staff as needed.
  • Respond effectively to directives from Lead chaperones and administrative staff.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding student personal and medical information.
  • Use discretion when taking students to doctor’s appointments.
  • Maintain an understanding of Houston Ballet policies and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain a financial log of all expenses and receipts for weekly reporting.
