About The Position

Be the Friendly Face Behind Community Giving! The Donation Centre Attendant (Part Time) is responsible for providing excellent donor service to encourage repeat donors to the Clothing Donation Centre. This role involves receiving donations of clothing, linens, shoes, small appliances, and housewares from the public, storing them properly to prevent damage, and maintaining the operational readiness of the centre.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 Education or equivalent experience
  • The Donation Centre Attendant must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to project a positive business-like image to the public
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of people
  • Ability to provide calm assistance to upset clients
  • Ability to maintain public relations type attitude even during stressful situations
  • Ability to understand and follow written or verbal instructions
  • Good command of the English language
  • Superior customer service skills
  • Reliable transportation and commitment to attendance and punctuality.
  • Willing and able to work weekend days and or evenings as a regular part of the position schedule
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada and, where applicable, must have a valid work permit or study permit that allows the candidate to fulfill the requirements of the role.

Responsibilities

  • Promptly opens/closes the Clothing Donation Centre each assigned day and prepares site for that day’s business
  • Greet donors upon their arrival at Clothing Donation Centre
  • Help donors by transferring their donations from their vehicle into the Clothing Donation Centre
  • Explain the National Diabetes Trust’s (NDT) charity mission to donors, as requested
  • Administrative responsibilities include: entering and updating production totals into the donation log, storing and organizing all donations in a secure location, preparing all paperwork accurately, along with daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports
  • Re-bag cloth items as required so that all items are in standard 67 L capacity garbage bags (66 x 82.5 cm). Stacking the collections as per the NDT’s standard operating procedures for efficient accounting and handling
  • Respond to and resolve complaints from donors, assist in training new attendants, and escalate more complex issues to the Manager/Supervisor
  • Answer phone and respond to messages immediately, cell phone must be kept on, ensure it is properly cared for and kept charged, ready for each day
  • Have a positive and professional image to the public, co-workers, and our corporate partners
  • Responsible always for personal safety and will: Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations, including understanding and adhering to the requirements of the Health and Safety Manual, and any other rules and regulations established by the National Diabetes Trust; Attend Attendant safety, training sessions, and meetings when required
  • If working a closing shift, secure the Clothing Donation Centre at the end of the business day and inform management to acknowledge the closing of the site
  • Additional duties as required ensuring the effective function of Operations
