About The Position

The Domestic Adoption Coordinator (DAC) is responsible for coordinating and planning services and resources for children and their families, under the supervision of the Director of Domestic Adoptions. The DAC will also handle intake services and provide casework for birth parents and extended family members as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and two years directly related experience OR Bachelor’s degree in a human services field from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience; OR Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and two years directly related experience
  • Directly related experience is defined as human services experience in the areas of case management, assessment and referral, supportive counseling, intervention, psycho-social therapy and treatment planning
  • Professes to be Christian believer and submits an individual Statement of Faith and Acknowledgement and Pledge
  • Has no criminal record that would adversely affect his or her ability to work with children and adults
  • Demonstrates sufficient resilience so as to be able to perform sensitive duties assisting children and families that may or may not have experienced trauma
  • Demonstrates support for the philosophy and goals of Christian Adoption Services, a ministry of Baptist Children’s Homes of NC, Inc. (BCH)
  • Demonstrates conduct that is professional and in accordance with BCH
  • Complies with and conduct themselves in accordance with the North Carolina and South Carolina Licensing Rules for Child Placing and the NASW Code of Ethics
  • Must have good organizational skills and be able to carry out duties in a timely manner
  • Possesses valid drivers’ license and safe driving record
  • Must have the capability to manage, plan, organize, implement, monitor and maintain agency programs as well as adhere to accreditation standards and N.C. and S.C. licensing requirements
  • Meets the general qualifications for employment as outlined in the agency personnel policies
  • Meets qualifications for employment as a Domestic Adoption Coordinator according to the rules and regulations established by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and Christian Adoption Services, a ministry of Baptist Homes of NC

Nice To Haves

  • American Translators Association Certification English/ Spanish; OR Demonstrate ACTFL Intermediate High Proficiency Level or above through proctored testing administered through agency’s preferred testing service

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for intake services
  • Complete all required legal documents and paperwork
  • Coordinate services in the assigned region, with potential regular travel to unassigned regions if providing bilingual support
  • Assist staff workers in the development and implementation of an effective pregnancy counseling program
  • Coordinate services with area organizations which communicate with the target population (i.e. women experiencing an unintended pregnancy)
  • Make recommendations to the Director of Domestic Adoptions for the acceptance of specific children into the agency’s foster care program
  • Increase awareness of Christian Adoption Services and Baptist Children’s Homes of NC with area organizations assisting women with unintended pregnancies
  • Prepare for and participate in regular supervisory conferences
  • Participate in 90-day and annual staff performance evaluations
  • Keep supervisor(s) informed on current status of total work responsibilities
  • Represent the agency's philosophy, purpose, and programs to groups, individuals, and referral agencies in a professional and objective manner
  • Comply with and conduct themselves in accordance with the North Carolina and South Carolina Licensing Rules for Child Placing and the NASW Code of Ethics
  • Carry out all duties in accordance with the rules and regulations established by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, BCH, Inc. policies and procedures (specifically the BCH Employee Manual, BCH Program Policies and Procedures Manual and Pregnancy Caseworker’s Manual)
  • Demonstrate knowledge of and ability to work as a member of the Adoption Services team
  • Have knowledge of and support the roles of other team members
  • Respect the right of the team to be involved with the child and his/her family
  • Share with team members information necessary for adoption decision making
  • Participate as a team member in team meetings and other staff meetings
  • Participate in ongoing monitoring of effectiveness of the team’s functioning
  • Research and conduct staff training on appropriate subjects as assigned
  • Participate in the In-Service Prospective Adoptive Family Training
  • Respect the cultural and socioeconomic diversity of staff members and children in care and strive to create a positive relationship within BCH
  • Participate in the agencies’ Performance Quality Improvement (PQI) program as needed
  • Provide casework for birth parents and extended family members as deemed appropriate
  • Conduct Intake Summaries
  • Provide counseling and intake services for expectant mothers and to provide casework services as requested for themselves and their children after birth
  • Maintain Case Notes for each client
  • Maintain Quarterly Reviews for each client
  • Continually increase knowledge and skills by taking steps necessary to stay in touch with current trends in the field of adoption as relates to children and families
  • Obtain a minimum of 24 hours annual professional training related to adoptions
  • Have a body of knowledge and skills necessary to carry out the responsibilities of the position
  • Demonstrate a knowledge level of current trends in the area of services to families and children
  • Develop a pool of external resources for supporting services on an as needed basis
  • Demonstrate and implement a working knowledge of skills in working
