The DOE's Office of Environmental Management Graduate Fellowship Program (EMGFP) is seeking graduate fellows to contribute to the nation's significant cleanup efforts. Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL), a world-class research institution, is looking for dynamic and driven individuals to work with renowned researchers on meaningful projects for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and other sponsors. This fellowship is part of the Minority Serving Institutions Partnership Program (MSIPP), funded by the DOE Office of Environmental Management (DOE-EM). DOE-EM is focused on cleaning up legacy radioactive waste in soil, groundwater, and underground storage tanks, with a particular emphasis on the Hanford Site, one of the most complex DOE sites due to hazardous comingled contaminants. The program aims to safely immobilize and clean up environmental legacy waste. To qualify, candidates must have attended a Minority Serving Institution (MSI) for their undergraduate or graduate degree. The selected candidate will work on projects involving environmental data processing, analysis methods, statistical modeling, data visualizations, and AI tool development to improve understanding of complex datasets and support remediation decision-making. The goal is to enhance remediation performance, reduce cleanup timeframes, and employ cost-efficient approaches, ultimately turning data insights into actionable recommendations for environmental remediation.
