We are seeking a highly detail-oriented Document Specialist for a 6-month contract to support the development, standardization, and management of IT and Cybersecurity-related Policies and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). This role will focus heavily on creating, refining, and maintaining documentation aligned with NIST frameworks, including support for IT/Cyber tabletop exercises and audit readiness activities. The ideal candidate brings strong experience in Policy and SOP development, document control systems, and regulated environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 3+ years of experience in document control, technical writing, or SOP development in a regulated environment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing IT and Cybersecurity Policies, SOPs and documentation.
  • Experience using document management systems such as MasterControl or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of document lifecycle management, version control, and compliance standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear documentation.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a contract-based role.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience with NIST policy audits for IT and Cybersecurity.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks for Cloud and Manufacturing OT/ICS/SCADA environments (e.g., NIST, OWASP, CIS, ISO 27001).
  • Experience documenting risk registers, gap assessments, and remediation planning.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, revise, and standardize cybersecurity SOPs, work instructions, and related documentation.
  • Leverage existing templates and frameworks to ensure consistency, accuracy, and compliance across all documentation.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity, IT, compliance, and operations teams to gather requirements and translate technical processes into clear, usable Policies and SOPs.
  • Support documentation efforts related to audit preparation and compliance initiatives.
  • Ensure all documents adhere to organizational and regulatory standards, including version control and approval workflows.
  • Utilize MasterControl (or similar document management systems) to manage document lifecycle processes, including drafting, review, approval, and archival.
  • Conduct gap analyses on existing documentation and recommend improvements.
  • Maintain document repositories and ensure accessibility and traceability of all Policies and SOPs.
  • Assist in audit readiness activities by organizing and presenting documentation as required.
