About The Position

The Doctoral Intern in Psychology provides assessment and intervention for individuals presenting with a wide range of acute mental health needs. The Doctoral Intern works as an integrated member of the interdisciplinary team, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist. The internship is a year-long supervised professional experience. In addition to providing direct service, interns participate in seminars and other learning activities designed to build competence in the nine domains outlined by the American Psychological Association.

Requirements

Enrolled in an APA accredited Ph.D. or PsyD doctoral program in psychology.
1 Year Experience in a psychiatric treatment setting.
Expertise in CBT, DBT, ACT, group therapy and the Recovery Model.
Demonstrated basic competence in group, individual, and family therapy.
Highly effective interpersonal skills and oral and written presentation skills.
Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional-development.

Responsibilities

Provides assessment and intervention for individuals presenting with a wide range of acute mental health needs.
Works as an integrated member of the interdisciplinary team, under the supervision of a licensed psychologist.
Participates in seminars and other learning activities designed to build competence in the nine domains outlined by the American Psychological Association.
Collaborates with clinical supervisor and interdisciplinary team to develop competency and acquire technical skills.
Communicates with appropriate supervisor in a timely manner all patient safety issues (e.g., suspected abuse, possible Tarasoff reporting, suicidality, clinical or ethical concerns).
Requests and accepts feedback and evidences self as a lifelong learner.
Attends and actively participates in required treatment team meetings and clinical supervision.
Communicates with the members of the healthcare team and court officers, conservator’s office and /or patient advocates as appropriate to expedite patient progress, while upholding patient rights and facility safety.

Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to establish and sustain high quality programs appropriate to short-stay/high acuity parameters associated with psychiatric patient population.
Collaborates with interdisciplinary team to evaluate patient outcomes.
Demonstrates initiative and skill in applying theories and methods of program evaluation and uses results to inform ongoing program development and evaluation.

Provides supervision to psychology trainees and consultative supervision to BHS staff as appropriate to ensure the quality of their professional development and services provided to patients.
Serves as Clinical Supervisor for psychology practicum student(s).
Provides didactic training, modeling, and consultation to BHS staff, as appropriate, to enhance BHS staff members ability to provide individualized patient care.
Attends and participates actively in 2 hours of didactic and experiential seminars every week.
Actively participates in clinical supervision with licensed psychologist every week, including a minimum 2 hours of individual and 2 hours of group supervision, meeting or exceeding requirements set forth by APPIC, APA and the CA Board of Psychology.
Provides clinical supervision for advanced doctoral supervision – minimum of 1 hour every 2 weeks.
Completes self-assessment of clinical competence at the beginning and end of each 4 month rotation.
