The Dock Worker/Forklift Operator loads and unloads freight and supports warehouse and material-handling operations. The role uses motorized forklifts, pallet jacks, and manual methods to move freight safely and efficiently, place the correct items on the appropriate trucks, and help ensure accurate, reliable, on-time deliveries. Freight must be properly secured with appropriate tools and supplies, such as pallets, straps, rope, airbags, and cardboard, to prevent damage in transit. The position is fast-paced and deadline-oriented, with frequent contact with service center personnel. The role requires working a variety of times and shifts to meet customer pickup and delivery schedules. The posted working days are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, and the posted shift is overnight; days and shifts may change based on scheduling and business needs. Work takes place in service-center and freight-handling environments, including enclosed vehicles and trailers, and may involve all weather conditions, varying noise levels, and very bright or low lighting. Employees may work in extremely hot or cold climates and around noise and odors. The physical demands include prolonged standing, walking, and forklift operation; frequent squatting, climbing, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, and handling freight; and working on surfaces that may be wet or slippery. Employees must be able to handle freight weighing up to 500 pounds with or without a dolly or cart, frequently lift objects up to 100 pounds, and perform the job's visual, auditory, reading, communication, and cognitive tasks. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
