About The Position

The Dock Attendant is responsible for assisting customers with the safe docking and tying of vessels, providing excellent customer service, and maintaining a welcoming and professional image. This role may also involve pumping fuel and accurately recording sales of fuel and ship store items. The position requires a high level of customer interaction and the ability to handle various operational tasks within the marina and ship store.

Requirements

  • Ability to assist customers with docking and tying of vessels safely.
  • Ability to complete the State Boating Safety Course.
  • Ability to drive boats within the Marina.
  • Ability to wash and flush various hulls and boat engines.
  • Ability to assist Forklift drivers with proper placement of boats and inventory.
  • Ability to operate a cash register and credit card machine, including making change.
  • Ability to work with others.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to speak effectively with customers.
  • Lifting and Carrying: The ability to lift, push, pull, or carry heavy objects, at times more than 50 pounds.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to stand and walk for long periods, sometimes up to several hours a day.
  • Climbing and Balance: Ability to climb vertical ladders and navigate stairs, including entering/exiting boats through hatches.
  • Exposure to extreme weather conditions including heat and cold.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all visitors have an exceptional customer experience at the marina.
  • Assist customers with docking and tying of vessels safely.
  • Complete the State Boating Safety Course.
  • Drive boats within the Marina.
  • Wash and flush various hulls and boat engines.
  • Assist Forklift drivers with proper placement of boats and inventory.
  • Take proactive steps for severe weather prevention to secure and protect docks, vessels, customers, and marina personnel.
  • Ensure proper recording of all fuel and ship store purchases.
  • Coordinate with the Ships Store/Marina or Parts Manager to maintain proper inventory levels of fuel and ship store products.
  • Maintain a clean and professional store.
  • Operate a cash register and credit card machine, including making change.
  • Ensure proper recording of all sales through IDS.
  • Wrap and bag merchandise for customers.
  • Receive and enter inventory data into IDS.
  • Mark or tag merchandise with prices.
  • Special order merchandise as necessary, working with customers for the best price.
  • Work with vendors to ensure the best deals available.
  • Stock shelves, counters, and display tables with merchandise.
  • Prepare special sales and clearance displays to move product.
  • Answer customer questions about products.
  • Provide back-up support to the parts department.
  • Keep the dock free of debris and clutter, ensuring hoses and dock lines are stowed properly.
  • Perform tasks such as pumping fuel and operating the pump out station.
  • Maintain proper fuel inventory reports daily/weekly or monthly as required.
  • Coordinate with the proper manager to ensure fuel pumps and pump out stations are maintained in working order.
  • Gain a complete understanding of spill containment supplies and equipment and be knowledgeable in their use.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
