About The Position

Orthopaedic Associates of Michigan (OAM) is West Michigan’s most established orthopaedic practice, providing exceptional, individualized care for patients of all ages. Requirements

  • 1+ year(s) of experience in the healthcare field.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Technical product and clinical competency.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, multi-tasking, and time management skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work both independently and on a team.
  • Proven positive record of attendance and timeliness when reporting to work.
  • Working knowledge of computers and relevant applications, including electronic health records.
  • Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Employee must have normal or correctible range of hearing and eyesight.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, lifting and reaching required.
  • Visual and auditory acuity to communicate with corkers, patients and customer groups.
  • Employee may be required to lift up to 40 pounds.

Nice To Haves

  • BA/BS in related field.
  • 1+ year(s) of experience with the application of durable medical equipment (DME/Orthotics) preferred.
  • Certified Orthopedic Fitter, Orthopedic Fitter, Orthopedic Technician, Athletic Trainer, Physical Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant Medical Assistant, or comparable professional medical certification preferred.
  • Tech savvy; knowledge of EMR systems preferred

Responsibilities

  • Review physician orders for patient care and provide desired product to the patient; properly fit device to patient.
  • Provide education to patient on the application, use, care and expected outcome for products as indicated by the physician instructions and manufacturer recommendations.
  • Perform patient calls as necessary for additional education and problem resolution.
  • Track, maintain, and order DME as needed to maintain needed inventory levels.
  • Apply understanding of orthopedic conditions in order to follow standards of care and best practice guidelines for safety.
  • Document all services provided both accurately and in a timely fashion.
  • Ensure that all necessary documentation is obtained as it relates to payer requirements, standard operating procedures, and any other compliance requirements.
  • Educate patients in regard to insurance plans and provisions, financial responsibility, and collection of patient portion.
  • Stay current with changing reimbursement as to maintain profitability.
  • Promote and foster good relations interdepartmentally with physicians, clinical staff, case managers, payers, and suppliers.
  • Comply with all elements of HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, and any other required programs.
  • Perform other duties or functions as assigned.
