About The Position

The Divisional Safety Manager delivers day‑to‑day safety leadership across Commercial and Industrial projects in SC, NC, and VA, ensuring regulatory compliance and supporting project teams to achieve measurable safety performance. This role enforces company safety protocols to ensure compliance with federal, state, and location regulations. This role partners with safety personnel, preconstruction, project leadership, field teams, corporate support services and Trade Partners to identify hazards, lead incident response, enforce safety standards, and manage safety program execution at the project level while supporting corporate and divisional safety objectives and budget responsibilities. This role supports and empowers project teams to uphold the highest standards of worker health and safety.

Requirements

Five years of construction safety experience with demonstrated site-level oversight.
Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Construction Management, or related field (preferred); equivalent experience considered.
OSHA 30 Construction; First Aid/CPR certification.
In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety practices.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
High level of integrity and ethical judgment.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
Resilient and adaptable in fast-paced, high-risk construction environments.
Passionate about continuous improvement and practical safety solutions.
Construction safety expertise with strong knowledge of OSHA construction standards and industry best practices.
Decision making authority to stop work and enforce corrective or disciplinary actions when necessary.
Investigation skills to lead root cause analysis and corrective action development.
Training ability to present safety topics to field crews and leadership.
Cross-functional collaboration with Business Unit Leaders, Senior Management, Project Managers, Superintendents, Subcontractors, ESD Divisional Safety Managers and Harper Safety Professionals.
Ability to influence field behavior and drive accountability without direct supervisory authority.
Experience working on multiple projects and coordinating with other safety personnel.
Experience in leading safety committees and fostering employee engagement.
Proficiency with digital safety platforms and reporting tools; experience with Procore, or similar systems preferred.
Competency in data analysis to identify trends and recommend preventive measures.
This position has direct reports and works collaboratively with other safety personnel supporting the same divisions, as well as safety personnel across other divisions.
The Divisional Safety Manager provides guidance, mentorship, and direction to field personnel and subcontractors on safety matters and leads project-level safety initiatives.
The role collaborates with executives, operations leadership, and field teams to embed safety into all phases of construction.
Additionally, this role ensures Trade Partner safety compliance through oversight and coordination.
This position requires strong leadership to foster accountability, drive continuous improvement, and maintain a proactive safety culture across all job sites.

Responsibilities

Provide oversight and guidance for projects; conduct job-site safety observations and enforce company safety standards.
Ensure toolbox talks, SOAR Orientation, pre-installed meetings, weekly job-site inspections by field team and safety professionals are being conducted, and pre-task planning is being conducted.
Stop work authority to address imminent hazards and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
Monitor High Risk Activities such as: Fall Protection, Excavation/trenching, Cranes and rigging, Concrete operations, Heavy equipment.
Implement and maintain project-level safety plans consistent with corporate policies and regulatory requirements (OSHA, DOT, EPA, AHJ, etc.).
Conduct regular site audits and inspections; document findings and track corrective actions.
Review subcontractor safety plans and monitor trade partner compliance.
Trade partner subcontract safety management.
Lead or assist in incident investigations, determine root causes, and develop corrective/preventive actions.
Maintain accurate incident records, prepare reports for internal leadership and regulatory agencies as required.
Respond to after-hours incidents and provide on-site leadership during emergency situations.
Promote a culture of safety through communication, recognition, and engagement.
Provide safety orientation and ongoing training (OSHA 10/30, First Aid/CPR, i.e.) for all assigned employees. Track training completion and maintain training records.
Communicate safety performance, trends, and recommendations to the Safety Director, Executive General Superintendent, Operational Leadership, and project teams.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
Implement divisional and/or project-level safety initiatives.
Manage assigned safety budget and procure safety equipment and supplies as needed.
Support corporate safety program updates and provide feedback.
Maintain accurate safety documentation, inspection logs, and inspection records for internal and regulatory purposes.
Track and report key performance indicators including TRIR, LTIR, EMR, number of inspections, and training hours.
