About The Position

As an active uniformed Salvationist in good standing, the Divisional Creative Arts Director promotes the development, improvement, and advancement of creative arts in the Salvation Army by instruction and example. Encourages and guides program participants’ involvement in worship and evangelistic outreach in the Division. The Divisional Creative Arts Director regularly attends, is an active soldier in a local corps, and is actively involved in the local music and arts programs to the extent that divisional duties allow.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or diploma from an accredited college or university in Drama, Dance, Music or a related field, AND Two years’ experience developing, conducting, and participating in Creative Arts programs preferably with The Salvation Army, OR Any equivalent combination of training and experience, that provides all the required knowledge, skills, and abilities listed in the job description.
Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
Ability to travel to various destinations throughout the Division.
Ability to be approved as an eligible driver under The Salvation Army Driver Qualification Program
Ability to perform in front of a large audience.
Ability to stand for extended periods of time while leading/directing dramatic/theatrical performances.
Work requires the ability to lift and carry and/or push/pull moderately heavy (25-50 lb.) materials, supplies, and equipment.
Moderate mobility.
Duties are usually performed by combinations of sitting, standing, and walking

Responsibilities

Travels throughout the division to meet with local corps on a regular basis; develops, and maintains their Creative Arts programs; solicits, recruits, and trains group leaders for programs.
Plans, choreographs, writes/re-writes scripts to fit groups at various events; coordinates rehearsals and conducts Creative Arts programs.
Creates, plans, schedules, coordinates, and leads virtual discussion groups, planning meetings, and other such virtual sessions on a regular basis to keep participants, leaders, Field Officers, and supervisors engaged and informed regarding department activities.
Designs, creates, publishes, and distributes printed and electronic documents to advertise, recruit and inform a wide variety of audiences to the Creative Arts program.
Maintains various social media platforms assigned to the Creative Arts programs with up to date, interesting and newsworthy information.
Maintains constant and open communication with the Creative Arts Leaders and officers in the division, keeping them informed of all ministry opportunities.
Maintains the Divisional Library of Creative Arts resources and materials; assists local leaders in obtaining materials for their own Creative Arts programs.
Provides recommendations into and ensures compliance with an annual budget for the division’s creative arts ministries; advises supervisor when budgetary conflicts arise.
Plans, organizes, choreographs, and directs the Divisional Arts Groups; plans and organizes tours for the groups.
Under the guidance of the Divisional Music Director, assists with planning, organizing, and implementing a Music & Creative Arts Conservatory; makes recommendations to supervisor and/or the Divisional Music Director in the selection and hiring of counselors; prepares and processes correspondence; organizes plans, and gathers materials for the full time creative arts track; prepares a program budget; teaches electives related to the creative arts, including a Leadership track.
Organize, coordinate, direct, and choreograph all creative arts ministries included in youth councils.
Plans, conducts, and administers the Divisional Creative Arts rehearsals; selects and photocopies materials and assembles folders; maintains roster and distributes correspondence.
Organize ad hoc groups upon request to perform in special events throughout the division.
Create and record choreography to be sent out upon request to corps and groups throughout the division.
Establish and maintain a divisional costume, set, and prop inventory.
Plans, prepares, and provides private drama and/or movement instruction for corps and divisional group members.
Assists Creative Arts Leaders and Corps Officers in the division with obtaining set, props, costumes, and supplies when necessary.
Assists with Youth Councils program including but not limited to general program coordination, support for music and creative arts performances, staging, costuming, assistance with registration, etc.
Assists with weekend camps and rallies including but not limited to general program coordination and support, staging, costuming, assistance with registration, etc.
Assists in summer camp matters as needed.
Develops Creative Arts leadership within the Division; administers the Divisional Music Conservatory and other training and educational activities; provides music for special Salvation Army engagements for the Division; provides all necessary assistance to music artists & ensembles visiting the Division; serves on the Divisional Music Committee, serving as Chair in the absence of the Divisional Music Director; plans and implements programs in the Division that enhance its quality of the music ministry.
Assists the Territorial Music Secretary as directed; serves on the Territorial Music Committee; serves on the Territorial Music Institute staff, as assigned; serves in the Territorial Band & Songsters, as assigned.
Performs other duties as assigned.
