About The Position
Maintaining our Provincial built infrastructure is no small job. We’re recruiting for people like you to help our Province achieve big things. The Department of Public Works supports Nova Scotia’s 23,000 kilometers of roads and highways, 4,100 bridges, and 9 provincial ferries. Watch your hands-on experiences come to life as you support the maintenance and construction of various projects throughout your assigned construction area.
Requirements
- Grade 11 plus two (2) years of cumulative work experience with a patching crew; or an acceptable equivalent of education and experience.
- Good eyesight is required to perform visual inspection of project sites.
- Continuous mental concentration while performing raking duties is required.
- Must be organized.
- Ability to work with limited supervision.
- Exhibit good judgment.
- Good customer and client service skills when interacting with the general public.
- Ability to work collaboratively as an effective team player.

Responsibilities
- Completing any combination of duties in the maintenance, repair, and rehabilitation process of the Department’s road network including: assessing assigned areas for deterioration and determining the areas to be repaired; preparing asphalt deformities for repair; estimating the required amount of asphalt to complete the repair; assessing the type of fill material to be used; filling deformities with asphalt and raking the areas for rolling; and raking and feathering asphalt for a smooth finish.
- Performing the duties of other job positions as outlined in Group I, II, III of CUPE Collective Agreement for which they are qualified.
