About The Position

This position provides direction and leadership for a division within Austin Parks and Recreation for the City of Austin. The purpose of the Division Manager position will be responsible for the development, implementation and coordination in a management and leadership capacity for the Community Recreation division within Austin Parks and Recreation for the City of Austin.

Requirements

  • Skill in handling multiple tasks and prioritizing.
  • Skill in using computers and related software.
  • Skill in data analysis and problem solving.
  • Skill in planning and organizing.
  • Ability to work with frequent interruptions and changes in priorities.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with other City employees and the public.
  • Graduation with a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field related to Business Administration, Public Administration, or related/relevant field, plus eight (8) years of planning, directing, and organizing experience, two (2) of which were in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Ability to travel to more than one work location.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, organizes, directs, and reviews development and coordination of a division within Austin Parks and Recreation.
  • Estimates, prepares, and proposes the division's annual budget.
  • Monitors and authorizes expenses and expenditures.
  • Develops annual and long-term range goals and objectives.
  • Collaborates with other departments and agencies, such as schools, businesses, etc.
  • Provides advice and assistance to citizens, contractors, management, etc.
  • Works with public and advisory boards to resolve issues and conflicts.
  • Plans Capital Improvement Projects.
  • Performs contract management duties, such as negotiating, approving, and monitoring contracts.
  • Conducts and attends meetings, conferences, seminars, etc.
  • Responsible for the full range of supervisory activities including selection, training, evaluation, counseling and recommendation for dismissal.
