About The Position

The Division Controller I directs, coordinates, and supervises accounting and administrative service functions for an assigned market. The role oversees accounting staff, financial reporting and forecasting, audit coordination, and workflow between National Shared Services and division operations. It also includes employee leadership responsibilities such as staffing, recruiting, work delegation, performance evaluation, development, and ongoing coaching.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or an equivalent related field.
Minimum of 5 years of public and/or corporate accounting experience.
Good knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and financial reports.
Good analytical and organizational skills.
Good verbal and written communication skills.

Nice To Haves

Active or inactive Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Direct and supervise accounting staff to ensure compliance with GAAP, strong internal controls, and company policies and procedures.
Prepare or direct the preparation of monthly financial reports, analyze budget-versus-actual results, and review findings with management.
Prepare financial forecasts and coordinate their preparation and review with homebuilding functional leaders.
Coordinate internal and external audit requests.
Facilitate workflow between National Shared Services and division operations.
Ensure appropriate staffing to meet department needs.
Use recruiting and selection tools and processes to build organizational talent.
Delegate work based on employees’ abilities and skills.
Evaluate employee performance and plan compensation actions in accordance with performance.
Identify internal and external training opportunities and provide developmental opportunities.
Create opportunities for employee growth.
Provide continuous coaching on functional and leadership standards, including technical skills and behaviors.
