About The Position

Mapleton Public Schools is seeking a District Musical Tech Assistant for its robust and award-winning Performing Arts program. This seasonal position, part of the Fall 2026 season, will support the Performing Arts Department by managing the technical aspects of musical productions, including set design, construction, and crew supervision. The role involves collaborating with directors, overseeing student tech crews, and ensuring the safe and effective execution of technical elements for rehearsals and performances. The ideal candidate will have experience in theater set design and construction, proficiency in design software, and the ability to train and manage student teams. This position is open to internal applicants only.

Requirements

  • Colorado teaching license with an appropriate drama and theatre arts endorsement preferred.
  • Experience in theater set design.
  • Experience in designing and overseeing the construction of sets.
  • Proficiency in design software and tools.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques and materials.
  • Experience working with high school students.
  • Experience working with diverse learners.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of national, state, and local drama and theatre arts standards.
  • Mandatory Title IX training is required by the Colorado Department of Education for all public-school employees. These courses must be completed within 30 days of the date of hire on their own time.

Responsibilities

  • Reading scripts, researching historical and thematic elements, and developing initial sketches and detailed drawings of set designs.
  • Working with directors and other key personnel to ensure a cohesive visual effect.
  • Creating cost estimates for set construction.
  • Purchasing of set materials and supplies.
  • Overseeing the building and assembly of sets with student tech crew.
  • Training the student tech crew in safety protocols and operation of equipment.
  • Setting the tech schedule with the musical director and communicating the schedule to all members of the tech crew.
  • Attending musical rehearsals, as needed.
  • Supervising the tech crew at rehearsals and musical performances.
  • Striking and loading out set at the end of the matinee.
  • Differentiating instruction to meet the needs of all learners.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to carry out the mission of the performing arts department.
  • Maintaining professional communication and interactions with students, community, and staff.
  • Utilizing effective practices for community building, including rituals and traditions that build a safe, inclusive, and respectful environment.
  • Modeling, instilling, and actively participating in building a supportive and positive culture in the performing arts department.
