About The Position

This position provides mental health services to probationers/parolees including crisis intervention, screening and report writing, psychoeducational services, individual and group therapy, treatment planning, and re-entry planning under the supervision and direction of the Regional Mental Health Clinician. Screens, tracks, and monitors probationers/parolees with mental health services needs in coordination with assigned Probation or Parole Officers. Provides consultation and training to Probation and Parole Staff. This is a wage position limited to working no more than 1,500 hours per agency during the 12-month period of May 1 – April 30, regardless of the hire date. The wage employment period resets on May 1 of the following year. All wage employees are limited to working no more than 29 hours per week on average over the 12-month period. This wage position offers no state benefits.

Requirements

  • Training and experience in the treatment of mental disorders.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop intervention and treatment plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide individual and group counseling/therapy.
  • Considerable working knowledge of psychopathology, diagnostic nomenclature, psychological theory and ethical practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide training.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to participate in treatment team and interdisciplinary meetings.
  • Must be willing to travel throughout the Eastern Region

Nice To Haves

  • Graduate degree in Clinical Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, Clinical Social Work, or equivalent degree in related human services field from an accredited university or college or an equivalent combination of training and experience, with advanced coursework in mental health supporting the ability to fulfill the required tasks of a Mental Health Service Provider as mandated by the Code of Virginia
  • Experience providing mental health services in a correctional, forensic, outpatient or other setting
  • Licensed as a clinician, QMHP or be QMHP eligible as dictated by the Code of Virginia
