The District Manager is responsible for all sales and operational performance of those branches assigned directly to him/her, over which he/she is to exercise managerial control to be able to achieve proper (or budgeted) sales and net profit.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience preferred
  • Minimum of five (5) years’ experience in a construction materials management sales role.
  • Demonstrated ability to direct, supervise, and communicate effectively with subordinates
  • Demonstrated product and industry knowledge
  • Demonstrated leadership ability

Responsibilities

  • Supervision of the Branch Managers and close coordination with that individual as to the branch’s operation in such a manner that all sales and operating budgets are met or exceeded on an annual basis.
  • Ensuring a safe workplace, proper safety training, and reviewing fleet condition, ensuring DOT and OSHA standards are met.
  • Serving as a leader to the Branch Managers, reviewing profit and loss statements monthly and submitting P&L reviews by the deadline.
  • Ensuring all administrative functions in the branch are operating smoothly.
  • Working with Branch Managers to maintain inventories at proper volume levels and guarding against theft.
  • Ensuring all company policies are fully implemented and carried out at the branch level.
  • Assisting in preparing annual operations (and sales) budgets and reviewing them before forwarding.
  • Traveling to branches in the District to accomplish responsibilities and utilizing the District Manager Checklist Form.
  • Providing support for district purchases.
  • Embracing and growing vendor partnerships within the district.
  • Customer management, ensuring and developing key customer relationships within the district.
  • Overseeing, directing, assisting, and reviewing sales strategies, tracking success including new account progress, and holding accountable the outside salesmen (Territory Managers).
  • Identifying non-performers and developing a written plan of action with a timeline.
  • Actively involved in establishing the annual sales budgeting process for each salesperson in the assigned area.
  • Identifying new products or options that may enhance sales profitably and advising the RVP.
  • Negotiating pricing on specific jobs or customers with Preferred Vendors to close sales or grow business.
  • Developing personal relationships with key customers to drive sales.
  • Assisting in recruiting, hiring, and staffing the branches.
  • Growing and developing personnel and building a team for success.
  • Approving requests for compensation changes before forwarding to corporate.
  • Directly responsible for the annual Branch Manager’s evaluations.
  • Seeking new opportunities for additional branches within the District Manager’s geographic boundaries (either greenfield or via acquisition).
  • Completing market surveys on possible expansion of cities and/or market areas.
  • Formulating a business plan as needed to execute growth.
