About The Position

Oakland County is seeking a Part-Time District Court Clerk to support daily court operations. This on-site position involves assisting the public and legal professionals, ensuring accuracy in court records, schedules, payments, and proceedings. The role is crucial for maintaining efficient court operations and providing essential services to the community.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or have a certificate of successful completion of the General Education Development Test.
  • At least three (3) years full-time experience in a court system or comparable qualifications that meet the Court Administrator's approval.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the operations, policies, and procedures of a district court.
  • Familiar with current word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and Internet software.
  • Ability to communicate to accurately convey information.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clerical support for civil, criminal, traffic, probation, and administrative court proceedings.
  • Assist the public, attorneys, law enforcement personnel, and other court partners with questions, processes, and court-related information.
  • Coordinate court schedules and prepare hearing notices, probation appointments, juror summonses, and other court documents.
  • Receive and accurately process fines, fees, bonds, costs, and civil escrow payments using computerized systems.
  • Work with defendants regarding financial obligations and payment arrangements, following established court procedures.
  • Maintain accurate information and complete assignments using court and County technology, including CLEMIS, LEIN, cash register systems, and other department-specific software.
  • Assist with reports, special projects, and other administrative responsibilities that support efficient court operations.
  • Give information at a counter or by telephone regarding court cases and procedures.
  • Assist the public in filling out standard court forms and prepare various standard court forms.
  • Prepare notices of hearings, examinations, appointments, and trials, and mail them.
  • Schedule courtroom proceedings, coordinating with judges, prosecutors, attorneys, and law enforcement personnel.
  • Check judicial case dockets and validate appearances.
  • Work closely with defendants regarding their financial status with the court.
  • Prepare bench warrants and/or input information to produce a bench warrant for signature of a judge.
  • Prepare warrant recalls and/or input information to produce a warrant recall.
  • Prepare and/or input information to produce license suspensions.
  • Prepare and/or input information to produce a clearance of license suspensions.
  • Prepare and/or input information to produce Secretary of State abstracts.
  • Prepare and/or input information to produce court ordered restricted driver's licenses.
  • Prepare Orders of Probation and Discharges from Probation.
  • Monitor and ensure compliance of unsupervised probation cases and process them accordingly.
  • Prepare juror summons to notify citizens of their appointment for jury duty.
  • Prepare pay vouchers for payments of juror attendance.
  • Prepare Judgements of Sentence and file with all required local and state agencies.
  • Obtain information through the Law Enforcement Information Network (L.E.I.N.) to receive driving record information and criminal history information.
  • Prepare computer input of data from tickets, citations, criminal and civil cases.
  • Operate a computer terminal and enter data.
  • Assist in gathering statistical information by reviewing case files, office activity logs or computer reports.
  • May provide guidance to lower clerical employees of court policies, procedures and legal matters.
  • May assist in the training of new and/or lower-level clerical employees.
  • Utilize current Countywide and/or department specific software to complete assignments.
