About The Position

The purpose of this classification is to support the administration of the HCS student transitions (5th to 6th grade, 8th to 9th grade, and 12th grade to college and careers), as well as to develop and support HCS EPSO initiatives. This will include supporting numerous partnerships with middle and high schools and outside institutions to expand systems and structures that support student success, including the Ninth Grade Succes program. This role leads, supports, coaches, and consults the HCS Ninth Grade Success District Council and school based Ninth Grade Success teams. In addition, this role designs, facilitates, monitors, and oversees the school-based collective team and individual role professional development.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in the education or related field
  • Five (5) years previous experience in school leadership such as instructional coach or teacher leader
  • Or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job.
  • Teaching candidates must hold a valid state of Tennessee Teaching or School Service certification.
  • Must maintain a valid state issued driver’s license.
  • Demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills to deal effectively with students, educators, parents, and community members.
  • Knowledgeable about formative and diagnostic assessments and research based instructional practices.
  • Deep understanding of best practices for teaching.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in education leadership or related field strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assists in the development, implementation, evaluation, and ongoing improvement of district curriculum to ensure alignment between Tennessee State standards, summative, interim, and formative assessments, curricular resources, and professional learning for teachers and leaders.
  • Completes assigned duties that align with the strategic direction, mission, and vision of HCS.
  • Shares a vision of deep conceptual understanding of content that goes beyond the teaching skill.
  • Collaborates with leaders to design, implement, and evaluate teacher professional development. Designs and conducts ongoing and sustained professional development throughout the year.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers model lessons and high-quality instructional materials utilizing the Inquiry-Based Method approach.
  • Provides planning feedback to teachers and assists in developing supplemental instructional materials and assessments.
  • Analyzes data to inform daily lesson planning, quarter reflections, and quarterly Benchmarks and TCAP assessments.
  • Provides coaching to school leaders and staff and implements research-based strategies that assist with reading and writing learning goals.
  • Models and coaches teachers and instructional coaches on effective instructional strategies (small group instruction and differentiated instruction).
  • Maintains records of progress and development for schools, as well as steps taken to enhance their development.
  • Communicates progress toward academic development goals with school leaders and C.O.
  • Tracks academic data using platforms like Cognos to track student progress, assess instructional effectiveness, inform curriculum adjustments, and develop interventions and monitor their impact.
  • Participates in school, district, and specific network professional development activities.
  • Serves as a liaison between iCivics and district leaders, content leads, teachers, and administrators, managing the district’s iCivics pilot program.
  • Supports all learning communities through Learning Walks and teacher observations.
  • Supports schools in pursuing and maintaining STEM/STEAM Designation status with the Tennessee Department of Education.
  • Provides innovation coaching to support STEM, computer science, and project-based learning across the district, including K-5 and middle school computer science integration.
  • Finds, organizes, purchases, and recommends curricular supplies and materials, including maintaining curriculum guides and providing training for educators.
  • Provides teacher and coach training on instructional technology and builds asynchronous professional development courses for educators.
  • Manages online course platforms, and instructional materials for various grade levels.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of frameworks to address challenging topics.
  • Assists with completing grant applications and grant-funded curriculum development initiatives and collaborates with partners for program piloting and resource dissemination.
  • Collaborates with content leads to facilitate leadership council meetings, learning community collaboratives, and professional development sessions.
  • Travels to school locations and other locations throughout the district to perform job duties.
  • Complies with applicable district, state, and federal codes, laws, rules, regulations, standards, policies and procedures.
  • Adheres to the Teacher Code of Ethics as defined by Tennessee Law.
  • Acts in a professional, respectful, and welcoming manner at all times.
  • Creates a customer-focused climate and provides quality services and support to schools, community, businesses, Superintendent of Schools, Board of Education, and other stakeholders.
  • Works collaboratively with all stakeholders.
