About The Position

The Distribution Weld Inspector is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality, and regulatory compliance of natural gas distribution pipeline construction, with a primary focus on weld inspection activities in accordance with 49 CFR Part 192, applicable codes, and company procedures. This role supports field operations by verifying that all welding and other joining methods, and installation practices meet required standards and are properly documented.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • AWS CWI or CPWI+V certification required.
  • 2+ years experience with pipeline construction or 3+ years of underground utility construction
  • Ability to pass pre-employment and random drug testing.
  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and the ability to operate a motor vehicle is required.

Nice To Haves

  • API 1169 certification preferred

Responsibilities

  • Enforce safety, quality, and compliance standards across all project sites in accordance with OSHA, PHMSA, state, local, and company requirements.
  • Perform visual inspection of pipeline welding activities to ensure compliance with 49 CFR Part 192, applicable AWS standards, qualified welding procedures (WPS), and welder qualifications; verify proper fit-up, alignment, and overall weld quality.
  • Perform field observations/inspections of natural gas pipeline construction activities, including excavation, installation, welding/fusion, backfilling, and restoration.
  • Verify and document compliance through detailed daily reports, photos, and records using company-provided digital tools.
  • Read and interpret project plans, procedures, and specifications; track materials and quantities.
  • Coordinate with contractors and clients to support project execution, address concerns, and maintain strong working relationships.
  • Maintain strong organizational and time management skills while working autonomously in the field.
  • Complete training requirements, including Operator Qualifications (OQs), in a timely manner.
  • Identify unsafe conditions, initiate stop work responsibility as necessary.
  • Safely perform physical field duties, including navigating uneven terrain, safely accessing excavations; and working outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Travel may be required (up to 25% of the time).
