About The Position

TRC is seeking a Distribution Technician to assist with inspecting power distribution poles for our clients as well as perform easment and Right of Way work. This role involves performing various field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems. Responsibilities include system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground-line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, and lighting audits. The technician will also perform field data collection using electronic devices, develop a working knowledge of relevant codes and standards, operate equipment for measurements and inspections, and achieve weekly billable goals. Assistance with storm damage assessments is also part of the role.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Minimum 0-3 years- experience as a Field Tech with utility experience preferred.
  • Experience with Right of Way (ROW) and easements.
  • Experienced with field survey equipment including but not limited to range finders, hasting sticks, and GPS units.
  • Clean and valid Driver's license required; Must be at least 18 years of age to drive on company time including personal and company vehicle.
  • Willing to provide written consent for GPS tracking of location (via Company issued cell phone, tablet/laptop, or Company issued vehicle).
  • Analytical competence to interact with variety of individuals including engineers and experienced distribution system designers.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with National Electrical Safety Code (NESC) preferred.
  • Knowledge of computers and software applications desired (MS Office products) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Perform various field technical services for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems including: system inventories and audits, joint use management and permitting, pad-mount inspections, ground- line pole inspections, metering and apparatus services, lighting audits, etc.
  • Perform field data collection utilizing laptop computer, tablet device, GPS, and other electronic devices in order to collect data for input into database software as necessary.
  • Develop a working knowledge of National Electrical Safety Code (NESC), electric utility construction standards, and telephone, cable and other communication facilities.
  • Operate necessary equipment to take measurements on utility poles and mid-span facilities, perform pole inspections, inspect and perform maintenance on pad-mount equipment, etc.
  • Achieve weekly billable goal as defined by the project guidelines.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Assistance with storm damage assessments to OH and UG distribution structures and equipment.
