This role acts as the lead on more complex below ground service, main, and regulator station installations and repairs, while participating in a 24/7 on-call rotation as a first responder. The technician will utilize company provided technology proficiently including the Geographical Information Systems (GIS) to plan emergency repairs and maintenance activities of gas main and services. They will also lead, direct, and develop employees in below-ground skills, and provide consistent and reliable feedback to supervision. The role involves performing basic-level tapping and stopping of gas during pipeline maintenance and emergency work, as well as mechanical, electro-fusion, and external-heat-applied plastic welding on plastic pipe during repairs and maintenance. Additionally, the technician will document, analyze, and report abnormal operating conditions and take appropriate corrective action for regulatory compliance, provide information and data required for the Distribution Integrity Management Program (DIMP), and perform service activation, deactivation, leak investigations and repairs, and pipeline maintenance. Customer consultation regarding work performed and instructions on gas usage will also be a responsibility, along with accurately capturing work order documentation on company provided technology.
