About The Position

The Engineer will be part of the Advanced Modeling and Forecasting Team within the System Planning organization. The role focuses on advanced Synergi Electric modeling and special studies, along with MATLAB-based automation and model management. Much of the work involves hands-on Synergi Electric modeling for studies such as capacity relief, contingency analysis, and fault current analysis. The rest centers on automating and standardizing workflows, managing models, automating Synergi Electric Solver execution in MATLAB, running large-scale studies, and supporting Synergi model governance. The position supports technically rigorous, repeatable, and defensible planning studies in collaboration with System Planning, Distribution Engineering, DER Planning, Reliability and Resiliency, and IT. Its work informs distribution investment decisions, regulatory-facing analysis, and long-range system planning. The role also supports Synergi Electric and PSCAD integration for electromagnetic transient (EMT) studies and produces decision-ready reports, visualizations, and technical documentation. The position requires at least three years of relevant professional experience and professional-level MATLAB and Simulink experience. A bachelor’s degree in engineering or a quantitative field is preferred, and an advanced degree is also preferred. Work samples may be requested. The position is hybrid, requires availability for emergency restoration assignments, and may require travel between Massachusetts, Connecticut, and New Hampshire. Eversource will not consider applicants who require immigration-related sponsorship to begin employment. The role is eligible for a potential incentive, and salary is commensurate with experience.

Requirements

  • At least 3 years of professional experience in the utility industry, power system planning, distribution engineering, power system analysis, or a closely related field, including responsibility for complex modeling studies and automation deliverables.
  • Professional-level MATLAB and Simulink experience, including MATLAB programming and Simulink simulations.
  • Hands-on experience with Synergi Electric distribution system modeling and Solver workflows, including special studies.
  • Demonstrated experience with 8760-hour simulations, time-series processing, and fault current and protection-related studies.
  • Ability to develop maintainable, tested, and version-controlled MATLAB code for automation, batch studies, postprocessing, visualization, and reusable analysis workflows.
  • Ability to demonstrate ownership of MATLAB-based tools or automation workflows, including requirements interpretation, code design, testing, documentation, troubleshooting, and end-user or stakeholder support.
  • Strong foundational understanding of distribution system planning, analysis, and operation.
  • Knowledge of distribution planning, including load growth, DER integration, voltage performance, and system constraints.
  • Ability to work with large and complex datasets and critically analyze results.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills.
  • Effective verbal communication skills for conveying technical results to varied audiences.
  • Ability to collaborate across planning, engineering, and IT organizations.
  • Availability for emergency restoration assignments as required.
  • Ability to travel between MA, CT, and NH as necessary.
  • Applicants requiring immigration-related sponsorship to start employment with Eversource will not be considered.

Nice To Haves
