About The Position

The Distribution System Modeling and Automation Intern will join Eversource’s Advanced Modeling and Forecasting Team within the System Planning organization. The internship provides hands-on experience in electric distribution system modeling, power system studies, and engineering automation tools. The intern will assist with Synergi Electric model development and maintenance, support special engineering studies, and help improve model-management and data-quality processes. Work may include capacity and contingency analyses, reviewing model inputs and outputs, and supporting distribution planning studies. The intern will also contribute to automation and digitalization initiatives, including MATLAB-based scripting, data processing, and workflow improvements that increase the efficiency and consistency of engineering studies. The position may also support large-scale study execution, model governance, and engineering data management. The role offers exposure to System Planning, Distribution Engineering, DER Planning, Reliability and Resiliency, and Information Technology. Projects support distribution system planning, infrastructure investment decisions, and modernization of the electric grid. The internship program includes hands-on learning, leadership exposure, professional development, coaching, training, networking, career exploration, and volunteer opportunities. Opportunities are available in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, with a hybrid schedule indicated in the position heading. The internship program runs from May 26, 2027, through August 13, 2027. Interns are paid hourly through a Managed Service Provider Program and are not employees of Eversource. Rates depend on graduation year and whether the role is technical or non-technical, ranging from $21.20 per hour for first-year students to $32.30 per hour for graduate-level students. There are two openings. Interns may be assigned emergency restoration duties and may be called to assist during emergencies outside normal responsibilities, work hours, and location.
