About The Position

The Distribution Supervisor in Substation Maintenance is responsible for the daily operation of maintaining, troubleshooting, and constructing LIPA substations. The supervisor manages union field technicians and mechanics.

Requirements

High school diploma.
At least 5 years of experience maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting electrical equipment in substations, power plants, or facilities, and/or constructing substations.
Ability to read and interpret schematic and wiring diagrams.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel and Word.
Valid U.S. driver's license and a safe, satisfactory driving record; must be maintained.
Compliance with the Department of Energy's regulation 10 CFR 810 is required.

Nice To Haves

Supervisory experience, preferably in a union or trade environment.
Experience working in a union environment.
Knowledge of SAP.
Experience working with represented labor and interpreting collective bargaining agreements.
Prior experience in an electric utility or related field.

Responsibilities

Interpret substation designs and identify more cost-effective alternatives.
Lead and motivate bargaining-unit personnel performing maintenance and construction activities.
Manage projects to keep them within budget constraints.
Collaborate with various organizations to support successful project completion.
Develop creative solutions when proper materials are unavailable.
Apply technical knowledge across electrical equipment maintenance and substation construction.
Develop coordinated construction plans to complete projects successfully.
Interpret engineering designs and modify them as needed to meet operating requirements.
