About The Position

The Distribution Specialist works in a safe manner, following all safety policies and procedures while keeping in mind other’s safety as well. This role is responsible for filling out shipping notices, bills of lading, orders, and other records to determine transportation carrier, work, and shipping methods required to meet shipping and receiving schedules. The specialist reviews all outgoing shipping activities to assure accuracy, completeness, and proper shipping condition. They determine space requirements and position of shipment in containers and trucks and lay out position of shipment. This role also inspects their own fork truck for defects and notifies maintenance personnel or contacts outside service facility for repair. The Distribution Specialist directs the movement of shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage and work areas, informs the Customer Service Representative when shipping is completed and part numbers for any open tags, and communicates future needs and solutions to potential shipping bottlenecks. They coordinate and load/unload less than truckload (LTL) shipments, affix shipping labels on packed cartons or stencil identifying shipping information on cartons, and compare identifying information and count, weigh, or measure items of incoming shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, orders, or other records. The specialist reports on shortages and notifies the appropriate person concerning damaged goods, and assures the movement of materials to proper delivery locations, storage and work areas. They operate a fork truck or use a hand truck to move, convey, or hoist shipments from shipping and receiving platform to storage or work area. This role investigates problems to determine root causes and then develops and implements solutions, identifying opportunities for improvement. The Distribution Specialist works with the Distribution Supervisor to plan layout of warehouse, and other storage areas, considering turnover, size, weight, and related factors of items stored. They process outbound small packages, truckload and air shipments, unload inbound materials, and load finished good materials. Re-warehousing is done when necessary. The specialist stages and loads outbound finished good materials in full truckload and mixed truckloads loads of product. They enter material movement information into the computer system, clean and maintain the work environment, and inventory materials on the work floor, supplying workers with materials as needed. Issues related to production, inventory, warehouse, or other relevant areas are escalated to appropriate AFSI personnel in a timely manner. Empty pallets and cardboard are removed from line areas and delivered to designated location(s), and dumpsters are kept empty. Materials or products are weighed and the weight is recorded on appropriate paperwork. The specialist utilizes a wireless tablet to review product and location information and complete all material moves in JDE. Accurate material handler daily move reports are kept for WIP movements or movements that cannot be completed in JDE. Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • 3 -5 years related experience and/or training preferred.

  • Weighs materials or products and records weight on appropriate paperwork.
  • Utilizes wireless tablet to review product and location information and compete all material moves in JDE.
  • Keeps accurate material handler daily move reports for WIP movements or movements that cannot be completed in JDE.
