About The Position

This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, and repairing natural gas lines, meters, and regulators. The role involves responding to customer service requests, operating heavy equipment, reading meters, performing welding, and overseeing contractor crews. The Distribution Operator also plays a role in investigating gas losses, responding to emergencies, and maintaining accurate records. The position requires adherence to safety regulations and company values.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 4 years total natural gas service and construction and maintenance field experience.
  • Must have obtained Sr Level status in either service or construction and maintenance.
  • Must have and maintain minimum Operator Qualifications (OQs) and classroom training for position.
  • Requires a valid driver's license in accordance with Company standards.
  • Must obtain and maintain any other required OQs and classroom training or certifications within six months.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Competent Person certificate within six months.
  • Working knowledge of various software applications for data entry, reference, and/or retrieval tasks.
  • Ability to communicate with internal/external customers to obtain and/or provide explanations and/or information.
  • Ability to lift 88 pounds from the ground to 38 inches.
  • Ability to carry 88 pounds a distance of 5 feet.
  • Ability to generate 100-foot pounds of pulling force at a contact point of 25 inches.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and/or crouch.
  • Requires the acute sense of sight and hearing (corrected or uncorrected) and strong sense of smell.
  • Pre and post employment screenings, including drug testing and motor vehicle record background checks are required.

Responsibilities

  • Installs, maintains, and repairs natural gas lines, meters, and regulators.
  • Turns natural gas lines on and off as necessary.
  • Responds to customer requests for service, including connections, disconnections, and leak investigations.
  • Operates and maintains heavy and/or specialized equipment and tools to dig and backfill ditches, and load/unload materials.
  • Reads meters and records consumption for billing.
  • Disconnects delinquent accounts as necessary.
  • Assists in providing barricades and channelization services at worksites.
  • Assists with the investigation and resolution of lost and unaccounted for natural gas.
  • Performs welding operations for the installation, maintenance, and repair of natural gas infrastructure.
  • Plans, monitors, coordinates, and inspects work of contractor crews.
  • Performs compliance-related tasks such as leak survey, cathodic protection, and odorization.
  • Performs activities to ensure responsiveness to natural gas and other emergencies.
  • Completes and maintains accurate records and reports.
  • Holds stand-by duty, works shifts, holidays, weekends, and responds to emergency call-outs.
  • Reports outside of regular work area.
  • Identifies, addresses, and reports safety and encroachment issues.
  • Responsible for the safe operation and inspection of assigned Company vehicles and equipment.
  • Demonstrates support for and adheres to the Company's values, strategies, policies, and procedures.
  • Becomes familiar with the Safety Manual, lives by its intent, and contributes to a safe working environment.
  • Completes all required safety training.
