About The Position

Leidos is seeking Distribution Engineers in Houston, Texas, to perform electric utility design engineering and deliver high-quality project work. The role involves working directly with clients and developing expertise in NESC, structural pole modeling, electrical power calculations, GIS design, field data collection, and client design standards. The position is hybrid: three days per week in the office and two days per week working remotely. Customer-site visits may be required to collect field data. The engineer designs and develops work packages for overhead, underground, URD, make-ready, and street-light projects; manages assigned scope, schedule, and budget; reviews design packages with clients; and supports planning, functional tasks, and customer follow-up. The role also involves maintaining schedule adherence, improving workflow efficiency and design quality, and coordinating utility conflicts and field engineering requirements. Work may include complex cable and conduit design in dense urban environments, permits, easements, and right-of-way applications.

  • Knowledge and demonstrated proficiency with the National Electric Safety Code (NESC).
  • Some prior knowledge of structural analysis, guying calculations, cable-pulling calculations, protective-device coordination, and electric demand and fault-current calculations.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience providing estimated costs, developing a bill of materials (BOM), and calculating CIAC.
  • Proficiency with MicroStation for electrical distribution design.
  • Proficiency with work management software and job estimating software.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools.

Responsibilities

  • Perform design engineering for Leidos electric utility customers.
  • Develop work packages for overhead, underground, URD, make-ready, and street-light projects using customer GIS and work management systems.
  • Manage the scope, schedule, and budget of assigned work.
  • Use design tools such as Pole Foreman, SOCKET, Spida-Calc, and DDS.
  • Review engineering design packages with clients.
  • Perform functional tasks, planning, and customer follow-up.
  • Analyze assigned work scope and maintain schedule adherence to support client priorities.
  • Initiate workflow improvements that promote efficiency and high-quality client design deliverables.
  • Coordinate conflicting utilities and other field engineering design requirements.
  • Assess and develop large design packages for complex cable and conduit projects in dense urban environments.
  • Support work permit development, easements, and right-of-way applications.
  • Visit customer sites as needed to collect field data for developing work packages.

Benefits
