About The Position

Idaho Power is looking for a Distribution II or Senior – Large Load to join their Planning, Engineering, and Construction team. This role plays a critical part in providing safe, reliable, and affordable energy to communities in Idaho and Oregon. The position is based in Boise, Idaho, with flexible scheduling and the option to work up to 40% remotely. Relocation assistance may be provided.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of: Lines core processes of new business operations, emergency response, and unplanned maintenance; Electrical distribution facilities, operating and protective systems; Line construction methods, materials, standards, and equipment; Financial requirements including Rule H, regulations, and rules; Surveying practices, legal property descriptions, permitting requirements, work order reconciliation, and applicable safety rules.
  • Skills in: Professional communication including verbal, written, and telephone etiquette; Customer focus, negotiation, and conflict resolution; Personal computers including commonly used applications, and AutoCAD/AUD; Math and algebra; Organization and project management.
  • Ability to: Read and understand construction drawings and plat, feeder, and work order maps; Assist with performing land and construction surveying and preparing easements with appropriate legal description; Gather information, organize, schedule, and design distribution facilities; Calculate voltage drop/flicker, fault current, clearance, conductor sag, and tension requirements; Perform vehicle inspections; Read and comprehend digital construction drawings; Determine when to use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and work overtime at supervisor's discretion.
  • Distribution Designer II: High school diploma or GED. 4 years of experience in electric utility line design OR Experience as a Journeyman Lineman with 1 year of design experience OR 2 ½ years of experience as an Idaho Power Distribution Designer I with a successful promotional assessment OR Is currently an Idaho Power Journeyman Lineman.
  • Senior Distribution Designer: High school diploma or GED. Successful completion of Distribution Designer I and II program requirements and assessments AND A minimum of 2 ½ years as a Distribution Designer II.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must obtain First Aid/CPR card within 90 days.

Nice To Haves

  • Distribution Designer II Preferred: 4 years of electric utility line design experience; 1 ½ years as a Distribution Designer II.
  • Senior Distribution Designer Preferred: Utility distribution construction background.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate, plan, and design line extensions and the rebuilding of infrastructure for overhead and underground power lines.
  • Meet with internal and external customers, including contractors and developers, to determine needs, negotiate conflicts, clarify issues, and communicate policies and procedures for line design options, rates, tariffs, and cost information.
  • Design complex line routes and create project quotes based on customer needs and company practices.
  • Train and mentor Distribution Designer I's and II's on processes and best practices for estimating, mapping, and design (for Senior role).
