This entry-level engineering position develops technical expertise in a specialty area and performs work involving conventional plans, investigations, surveys, structures, or equipment with relatively few complex features. Assignments are limited in scope and use established principles and techniques. The engineer works under supervision and follows established procedures; work is reviewed for technical judgment, adequacy, and accuracy. With increasing proficiency, the engineer may take on portions of larger projects, lead small-to-medium noncritical projects, or provide field oversight of critical projects under the direction of a higher-level engineer or supervisor. The selected candidate will be placed at the entry, staff, or senior level based on skills and experience, with different expectations at each level. The role supports engineering projects across areas such as operations, maintenance, testing and diagnostics, and regulatory work. It may include technical documentation, project coordination, field oversight, bid and proposal evaluation support, communication with internal teams and external customers or vendors, and guidance for less experienced colleagues. The position may also support project budgeting, estimating, forecasting, accounting, and work order management. Xcel Energy supports a hybrid work model. Many roles are expected to work onsite three days per week, Tuesday through Thursday, though location expectations vary by role, team, and business needs. The anticipated starting base pay is $70,000 to $129,267 per year, depending on placement level. The position is eligible for an annual incentive program and the benefits listed in the posting.
