About The Position

The Distribution Design Associate is a field engineering position with approximately 75% of the time spent in the field. There is daily travel to field locations and occasional overnight travel depending on project location and schedule. The Distribution Design Associate is responsible for collecting field data and is the primary connection between customers, field conditions and the central design centers.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Project Management or related technical field required.
  • Three years relevant utility industry experience (e.g., design or construction experience on electric or gas distribution lines, experience with distributed generation interconnections like solar and wind, field operational experience working with utility contractors, customer representatives or construction personnel) may be considered without required Associates degree.

Responsibilities

  • Provide field engineering services on customer requests and projects generated internally, such as reliability, planning and replacement.
  • Perform on‑site field visits to evaluate electric distribution and gas system project locations, capturing accurate measurements, sketches, photos, and site observations.
  • Document existing conditions, customer requirements, and field constraints, producing clear and complete field notes for use by centralized design teams.
  • Obtain all required customer approvals, easements, and rights-of-way to prepare and execute service contracts, permits, releases, plats, and records.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between customers and internal engineering/design centers, while interpreting field conditions and ensuring project requirements are fully understood.
  • Support customer‑requested service projects by validating scope, identifying potential constructability issues, and confirming field feasibility.
  • Coordinate with operating centers, construction resources, and engineering personnel to support timely project execution.
  • Maintain consistent communication with customers and internal stakeholders to support customer satisfaction and project clarity.
  • Enter, update, and track project information using company systems to ensure accurate records and job progression.
  • Adhere to company safety standards, policies, and procedures while working independently in field environments.
  • Provide excellent customer service to contribute to the customer satisfaction goals of Ameren Illinois.
  • Participate in and successfully complete required training programs and testing to maintain role qualifications.
  • Assist team members and operating centers as needed to support overall workload and business priorities.
