About The Position

Eversource is seeking a Distribution Design Associate Engineer to be located in Cheshire, CT. This is an entry-level position within the Distribution Design Engineer (DDE) progression, reporting to an Engineering Lead. The role provides the individual with the necessary experience and training for advancement to the fully qualified level of Distribution Design Engineer. Duties include assisting in identifying improvements and major repair needs on the distribution system, providing engineering support for customer additions, and assisting with system improvements for assigned circuits. The individual will review daily interruption reports, analyze projected circuit deficiencies (e.g., voltage, overloads), and assist the DDE/Lead with developing recommendations on equipment replacement versus repair to maximize Return on Asset (ROA). The role also involves participation in major restoration efforts, including Emergency Preparedness. Essential Functions include assisting with the planning and performance for assigned circuits, identifying project benefits and desired outcomes, providing engineering support for specific projects, and assisting with engineering resolutions for multiple outages. The role involves creating field work in the current work management system and assisting the DDE/Lead until proficient in supporting EMF communications/measurements, negotiating easements, addressing customer quality of service issues, and supporting Operations with distribution issues (including switching review, contingency planning, work prioritization, and yellow tag monitoring). Additionally, it involves providing engineering support to Field Engineering Design P&CE on Recloser and Breaker settings, considering safety in all circuit analysis, making direct customer contact, developing corrective actions, providing regulator and capacitor control settings, assisting in outage/voltage/power quality investigations, and engineering corrective actions. The role also includes working with the DDE/Lead in developing distribution projects and presenting to the Connecticut Project Authorization Committee (CTPAC) for approval, evaluating proposed DG interconnection applications, and reviewing/implementing annual procedures. The position requires utilizing electronic software tools to model and analyze the distribution system (SynerGee, PTI, USAmp, PI, Visio, etc.). Other related duties as assigned, including support to SOC, and non-exclusive, non-supervisory, storm restoration and emergency assignments are also part of the role.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required, Electrical Engineering preferred.
  • Zero (0) to Three (3) years of equivalent experience in Energy Delivery is preferred.
  • Knowledge of distribution systems is desired.
  • Must be able to work in a team environment.
  • Knowledgeable of various computer applications including Microsoft Office.
  • Circuit analysis software skills preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must hold a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the planning function and performance for all assigned circuits.
  • Assist in identifying benefits from individual projects and predicted desired outcomes.
  • Provide engineering support for specific projects.
  • Assist with engineering resolutions for multiple outages in the Distribution System.
  • Create field work in current work management system.
  • Assist DDE/Lead until proficient in support of the following: EMF communications and/or measurements for customers.
  • Assist DDE/Lead until proficient in support of: Real Estate Department and Customer to negotiate easements as required.
  • Assist DDE/Lead until proficient in support of: Account Executives with customer quality of service issues.
  • Assist DDE/Lead until proficient in support of: Operations with distribution issues. This includes review switching, develop contingency plans, prioritizing work, monitoring yellow tags, etc.
  • Provide engineering support to Field Engineering Design P&CE on developing Recloser and Breaker settings.
  • Considers safety in all circuit analysis.
  • Makes direct contact with customer and develop corrective actions.
  • Provide regulator and capacitor control settings for Electrical Maintenance.
  • Assist in outage, voltage, and power quality investigations and will engineer corrective action to prevent reoccurrence.
  • Provide reports as required.
  • Works with DDE/Lead in the development of distribution projects and will be required to present to the Connecticut Project Authorization Committee CTPAC for approval.
  • Evaluate proposed DG interconnection applications.
  • Review and implement annual procedures, (e.g. TD941).
  • Utilize electronic software tools to model and analyze the distribution system (SynerGee, PTI, USAmp, PI, Visio, etc.).
  • Other related duties as assigned, including support to SOC.
  • Will have nonexclusive, non-supervisory, storm restoration and emergency assignments.

Benefits

  • The annual salary range for this position is $79,000-$84,000, plus incentive.
