The DC Operations Manager is responsible for the success of assigned functions within a complex distribution center and for helping create an outstanding place to work. Depending on the distribution center, the role may supervise inbound operations, warehouse operations, outbound operations, transportation operations, and/or office operations. The manager works with the General Manager or DC Assistant General Manager to develop strategies and objectives that maximize productivity and leverage expenses. They analyze trends, solve problems, and motivate and develop associates, typically managing through several Supervisors and affecting a large number of hourly associates. The role may include personnel decisions such as selection, termination, performance appraisal, and professional development of subordinates. It typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time. The work is typically in a comfortable environment, with regular exposure to temperature extremes, moving machinery, loud noise, and fumes that may cause noticeable discomfort or a moderate risk of accident or illness. Physical requirements include intermittent periods of continuous exertion, such as walking, standing, stooping, climbing, and lifting material or equipment, some of which may be heavy or awkward.
