About The Position

The Integrated Design & Build organization works at the forefront of aircraft engine design and manufacturing technology. The Distinguished Staff Development & Process Engineer uses deep expertise to define and drive development of polymer matrix composite (PMC) processes in collaboration with design and manufacturing teams, supporting GE Aerospace's Future of Flight initiatives. The role sets technical strategy for PMC materials and component-level processes from early development through qualification and production improvement. It advances components from technology readiness (TRL) to manufacturing readiness (MRL), establishes best practices and design requirements, implements composites technology advancements, and communicates technical and programmatic risks to senior leaders. The position also provides technical and thought leadership, influences organizational policy, leads cross-functional teams, and mentors engineers. This is a remote position. Relocation assistance is provided. Access to U.S. export-controlled information requires the ability to establish U.S. Person status as described in the posting. Employment is limited to individuals legally authorized to work in the United States and is conditioned on successful completion of a drug screen, as applicable; employees may also be subject to random and reasonable-suspicion drug and alcohol testing.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related discipline.
  • At least 5 years of experience in composites manufacturing engineering and/or process development.
  • Deep technical expertise and specialization in polymer matrix composite materials and processes.
  • Ability to establish U.S. Person status as one of the categories specified in the posting, due to access to U.S. export-controlled information.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Master's or PhD in Materials Science, Chemical, Mechanical, or Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
  • 7 or more years of experience in PMC process development, composites manufacturing engineering, or materials and process engineering, ideally in aerospace.
  • Hands-on experience with PMC fabrication processes, tooling, and cure.
  • Familiarity with composites NDE methods and composite repair techniques.
  • Supplier and shop-floor experience in a composites manufacturing environment.
  • Experience leading DOEs and translating results into process specifications.
  • Hands-on mindset, spatial thinking, clear reasoning, and effective problem-solving.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and program management, including leading teams without direct reporting relationships.
  • Results-oriented approach with disciplined risk management.
  • Prior experience as a Certifying Agent, Materials Application Engineer (MAE), or Process/Manufacturing Engineer.
  • Familiarity with Lean/Six Sigma, digital data analytics, and module-level systems thinking.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the strategic development, qualification, and implementation of new PMC processes using appropriate MRL/TRL mechanisms for Future of Flight programs.
  • Lead process development through designed experiments (DOEs) to understand how process parameters affect part quality and performance.
  • Own technical program management for PMC process development, including planning, execution, and technical and programmatic risk management, and communicate regularly with senior leaders.
  • Integrate new and improved PMC processes into manufacturing and MRO operations in partnership with shops, suppliers, and design engineering.
  • Establish composites best practices and design requirements; author and integrate process specifications, technical documentation, and technical publications.
  • Monitor composites industry trends and engage external partners, material suppliers, and research organizations to bring technology advancements into GE Aerospace processes.
  • Apply commercial and business acumen to process decisions, considering component cost, repair cost, and lifecycle impact.
  • Lead cross-functional teams without direct reporting authority and influence peers and partners to adopt new approaches.
  • Document and share lessons learned within and outside the organization, mentor engineers, and advance composites technical competency across the team.
  • Provide professional and thought leadership as a subject-matter expert, influence policy, and ensure delivery within the area of responsibility while linking with other parts of the organization.
  • Interpret business challenges and recommend practices to improve products, processes, or services; use industry trends to inform decisions.
  • Lead others in finding creative solutions to complex manufacturing processes with technical variety or interdependent production cycles.
  • Evaluate information quality, question conflicting data, and use resources outside the function to reach decisions.
  • Lead functional teams or projects with moderate resource requirements, risk, or complexity; present technical solutions, communicate complex messages, and influence peers, external partners, vendors, or customers.
