Distinguished Engineer, Frontier Agentic AI (Remote)

CrowdStrike•Austin, TX
•$235,000 - $350,000•Remote

About The Position

CrowdStrike is seeking a Distinguished Engineer to research, define, and build the future of cybersecurity AI within its Cybersecurity Superintelligence Lab. The role combines frontier AI research, deep cybersecurity expertise, and large-scale systems engineering. The position involves understanding advances in AI, identifying new cybersecurity approaches, and building systems that improve how defenders operate. Work may span autonomous investigation, threat hunting, adversary simulation, detection, response, and remediation, including use cases that have not yet been defined. As a senior technical leader in the Lab, the Distinguished Engineer will make original technical contributions and set direction for teams. The role includes identifying research questions, developing approaches, building prototypes, establishing rigorous evaluations, and helping turn successful research into capabilities that operate at CrowdStrike scale. The engineer will work on present-day possibilities while anticipating advances in models and agentic systems over the next 12–24 months, considering the complete application and supporting systems, including models, agents, security data, tools, and execution environments.

Requirements

  • PhD in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Neuroscience, or a related quantitative field.
  • Sustained record of original work at the intersection of AI and cybersecurity, including research or systems that introduced new capabilities, approaches, or applications.
  • Deep cybersecurity expertise through significant technical work in areas such as threat hunting, detection and response, vulnerability research, adversary behavior, security analytics, or security automation; ability to independently identify important security problems and AI opportunities.
  • Deep hands-on experience architecting and building end-to-end AI systems combining models, reasoning, tools, data, and execution environments.
  • Strong applied research instincts and quantitative rigor, including formulating hypotheses, designing meaningful experiments, establishing credible baselines, and following evidence.
  • Experience taking sophisticated ML or AI systems from research prototypes to real-world deployment.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership across teams, including setting research and engineering direction, mentoring senior technical talent, and influencing major decisions through technical depth and evidence.
  • Research or engineering experience with autonomous or multi-agent systems, long-horizon reasoning, adversary simulation, or closed-loop security systems.
  • Experience with adversarial learning, reinforcement learning, model post-training, synthetic data, or other methods for improving AI systems through interaction and feedback.
  • Experience building AI systems for high-volume, latency-sensitive cybersecurity environments.
  • Experience architecting and building extensible AI or agentic platforms that enable teams to develop, evaluate, optimize, and deploy sophisticated AI applications at scale.
  • Contributions to influential research, open-source software, or technical communities spanning AI and cybersecurity.

Responsibilities

  • Track advances in frontier AI and determine their potential for cybersecurity; identify new capabilities and use cases and set research directions and technical approaches.
  • Design and build end-to-end cybersecurity AI applications that reason across security context, use tools, coordinate, and execute complex security tasks.
  • Determine how models, agents, security telemetry, and execution environments should work together to enable new capabilities.
  • Use investigations, adversary behavior, simulations, and expert feedback to improve system behavior; explore how offensive validation and defensive outcomes can generate better evidence, evaluations, and training signals.
  • Work with threat researchers, incident responders, red teamers, and other security experts to ground research in real-world defense.
  • Build benchmarks, cyber environments, and evaluation harnesses to expose capabilities and failure modes; measure security efficacy, reliability, performance, and cost.
  • Lead consequential research and architecture decisions across teams, work directly on difficult technical problems, mentor senior researchers and engineers, and drive alignment through prototypes, experiments, and evidence.
  • Turn promising research into systems that operate against high-volume security data and adaptive adversaries at CrowdStrike scale.
  • Represent CrowdStrike through research publications, open-source contributions, technical collaborations, and engagement with AI and cybersecurity research communities.

Benefits

  • Market leader in compensation and equity awards.
  • Comprehensive physical and mental wellness programs.
  • Competitive vacation and holidays for recharge.
  • Paid parental and adoption leaves.
  • Professional development opportunities for all employees regardless of level or role.
  • Employee Networks, geographic neighborhood groups, and volunteer opportunities to build connections.
  • Vibrant office culture with world-class amenities.
  • Health insurance, 401(k), and paid time off.
  • Eligibility for bonuses and equity grants.
