About The Position

As a Distinguished Engineer in Verizon’s Network & Technology IT organization, you will serve as the domain expert in Network Service Assurance, driving autonomous, intent-driven network operations for global management teams. You will lead the design and delivery of AI-driven agentic workflows and integrate wireless and wireline surveillance, correlation, ticketing, and third-party systems. The role leads end-to-end architecture and program delivery across network engineering and provisioning, including alarm and event processing, correlation, automation, and workflow modernization. You will refactor legacy systems toward event-driven, cloud-native architectures aligned with Verizon’s Standard Operating Environment (SOE) and Directional Architecture. Working with architecture teams, development teams, executives, vendors, and other cross-functional partners, you will define architectural principles, align high-level designs and APIs, and guide delivery from solution definition through go-live. You will also establish reusable components, schemas, standards, and tools; promote resilient, observable, self-healing API-driven workflows; support mission- and business-critical applications; and encourage adoption of modern software engineering practices and AI technologies. The role includes mentoring architects and development leads, facilitating technical and executive discussions, and leading programs focused on process optimization and technology adoption.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or four or more years of work experience.
  • Eight or more years of relevant experience, demonstrated through work and/or military experience or specialized training.
  • Experience architecting scalable network fault management solutions for alarm processing, correlation, ticketing, and automated workflows across legacy and modern systems.
  • Proven success modernizing legacy core network automations and high-volume workflow engines into event-driven architectures without disrupting operations.
  • Experience in Core Network domain architecture and software engineering, specializing in high-volume process flow modeling and end-to-end product design for complex business environments.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • Experience conducting technical workshops to define inter-system communications.
  • Experience leading a team.
  • Skill translating Core Network business requirements into technical design documents.
  • Experience designing and building complex, enterprise-grade Java-based architectural solutions.
  • Experience providing architecture or solutions for modernization and migration projects.
  • Experience developing and optimizing server architectures.
  • Experience with Java/J2EE technologies and Spring Boot microservices.
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases such as Oracle and PostgreSQL.
  • Knowledge of cloud technologies, including AWS, Docker containers, or Kubernetes (K8S).
  • Experience presenting and communicating with executives with IT and non-IT backgrounds.
  • Experience using AI tools such as Claude Code and Copilot.
  • Experience with enterprise orchestration, BPM engines, and multi-system task management.
  • Experience with legacy-to-modern migrations using the Strangler Fig pattern, domain-driven design, and workflow engines such as Camunda or Temporal.
  • Experience working in a large cross-functional team structure.
  • Experience working in the telecom industry.
  • Experience working with vendors and in vendor management.

Responsibilities

  • Architect end-to-end functionality across core modules (UFM, UWA, SA360/UTP) for wireline and wireless initiatives, including ANO360, Frontier Integration, iEN, and Sesame.
  • Modernize legacy alarm processing, ticketing, and jBPM workflows into scalable, event-driven microservices architectures.
  • Define blueprint patterns and standards for API-driven workflows with high resiliency, observability, and self-healing capabilities.
  • Lead development teams to ensure code quality, data integrity, traceability, performance, and resiliency in workflow execution.
  • Partner with Director- and VP-level leaders to support decision-making, facilitate working sessions, and align cross-functional technical teams.
  • Drive organizational change using stakeholder analysis and structured change management techniques.
  • Create architectural enablers and conduct design reviews to align systems with Directional Architecture, SOE, and domain boundaries.
  • Mentor architects and development leads in the Service Assurance space.
  • Provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams on solution design and system and process impacts.
  • Support mission- and business-critical Network Systems applications across provisioning and service qualification domains.
  • Align teams on technical direction and partner with vendors and internal teams to validate assumptions, evaluate options, and build the Continuous Delivery Pipeline.
  • Participate in Development Cycle planning, system and solution demos, Inspect & Adapt events, and high-level solution trade-off discussions.
  • Create, lead, and execute programs focused on process optimization and technology adoption to maximize business value.
  • Deliver end-to-end solution architecture from definition through go-live across logical, technical, and physical views.
  • Define reusable components, common schemas, standards, and tools for the Service Qualification team.
  • Drive adoption of software engineering best practices and modern technologies, including AI, LLM, and ARG, across the broader product architecture ecosystem.
