About The Position

The Distance Education Coordinator assists the Director of Online Learning & Strategy in the advancement of Duquesne University’s distance education initiatives. This role ensures student and faculty success through high-quality online learning experiences while maintaining institutional regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree field from an accredited educational institution.
  • 1-3 years of work-related experience.
  • Instruction Designer Certificate (or comparable credential attained through degree).
  • Quality Matters or Other Online Course Evaluation Certification within 90 days of hire.
  • Universal Design for Learning (UDL) or similar designing for accessibility and learning credential within 90 days of hire.
  • Experience in distance education.
  • Experience in regulatory compliance and distance education regulations such as SARA.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of best practice in online course development, delivery and student learning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of instructional design principles and emerging online learning technologies.
  • Experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL) and web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1).
  • Expertise in the Canvas Learning Management System (LMS).
  • Background in student success initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Higher Education, Instructional Design, Education or related field from an accredited educational institution.
  • Alternatively, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions.
  • Strong communication skills, ability to work effectively with diverse constituencies, collaboration and teamwork, initiative and task completion.
  • Ability to explore and adapt to emerging technologies and practices in higher education
  • Proficiency with video recording, editing, post-production software and tools
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community.

Responsibilities

  • Manages compliance with Distance Education regulations, manage State Authorization and Professional Licensure process for compliance.
  • Supports best practices in online course and program delivery. This includes use of rubrics to evaluate online instruction to ensure quality standards and Regular & Substantive Interaction (RSI) requirements are met.
  • Supports University Digital Accessibility efforts to achieve and maintain WCAG 2.1 compliance.
  • Represents the Office of Online Learning and Strategy [Distance Education] at both internal and external events and trainings.
  • Utilizes emerging technologies and remain current on best practices in distance and higher education to support strategic goals.
  • Assists faculty and staff with recording and post-production of instructional videos utilizing recording studios.
  • Completes other duties as assigned.
